i just got my harddrive cleared, reinstalled xp, and now it says i need software to play dvd’s. where do i get said software for free
you dont
pay for it.
Check out sourceforge.net and download.com
I dont remember paying for any software the first time around.
a couple program names come to mind that might have been what i had, windvd and intervideo. i googled them, and they cost money.
yea i went to download.com and got an avant dvd player, but it sucks. it doesnt fast foreward or rewind.
yeah, you need the proper codecs (why XP doesn’t come bundled with it is beyond me)
use either VLC media player or MPlayer

I’m pretty sure both have the ability to play DVD’s videos and are also free of charge (open source). I prefer VLC but have heard good things about mplayer aswell
If that doesn’t work, let me know and I’ll just give you an old copy of nero… I know that nero’s media player has them
vlc is what i use
and the codec pack
I use mplayerc. Media player classic. works awesome. It play just about anything i want it to.
