DVI-D??????????? HELP

Ok, no I am not a huge computer freak so be kind… I play a lot of counter strike and do a small amount of picture/video on my computer SO my needs in a monitor are not the greatest…

I purchased a larger monitor for my laptop last night for 189 at best buy (Westinghouse - 20" Flat-Panel LCD Monitor, i know like i said, not the best quality but works for me) The laptop that I am using is a Acer aspire 4315 (only mod is changing the dual 512mb ram sticks to dual 1gig; i.e. 2048mbs ram, had to because vista was drowning my cpu.) anyways counter strike on the laptop runs fine with a latency of 15-35 and a fps of 35-50 SO not much lag (on east cost servers)…

I popped everything in place last night, hooked up my VGA cable and viola the monitor came to life, (made adjustment to video card to supplement larger screen resolution) and was running cs for hrs with NO PROBLEM…

I am very happy with everything, my only question is my monitor is compatible with a DVI-D cable, but my computer does NOT have an input for this particular cable… what do i do?, is there a adapter??, can i change my video card (which in my particular situation is integrated) so that it can adapt to DVI-D… and most importantly what is a DVI-D cable and what exactly will it do for me???

hope i can get some good help and not insults on my setup… thanks much

=)

There is no adapter for what you want to do. You can only convert from DVI to VGA, not VGA to DVI.

You cannot do anything about it, since you have integrated video. Its not THAT much of a difference, so it sounds like you got a nice deal  If in the near future you buy a new computer, at least you’ll have the possibility of using the DVI on the monitor.

thanks a lot =)

what exactly is an integrated video card? i have installed video cards on my desktop but how does it work on a laptop, and is there a possibly that I can change the piece in my laptop to attain the DVI cable/ better video card?? or is it more economical to just purchase a new Laptop??

An integrated graphics card means that the video adapter is actually built into the motherboard. It isn’t a seperate card, as with most desktop computers.

With laptops, 99.9% of the time, the video is built into the laptop itself. In order to get better video, you’d need to upgrade the whole computer.

Sadly, most gaming laptops are around $2000, whereas those $599 deals are basic word/internet computers.
