Easy VGA to component or HDMI?

I was playing with the Svideo out on my laptop,
and was wondering if there was an easy way to convert the higher def VGA signal to the imputs on my HDTV.

My TV dosent have VGA or DVI imput but has Svideo, HDMI & Component. (R,G,B,)

a quick google search found me this thing.

but its over 100 bux everywhere i looked. which seems silly.

Just looking for a way to play some PC games on my new big TV.

What outputs does the laptop have? VGA, S-Video and DVI?

This link might help answer your question:

It seems like if you’ve got a DVI out, you should be able to get a cable that gets you to an HDMI connector ton your TV. You’ll need to find a way to get your audio, though, probably by running a separate cable.

Found this link at the site above…

Seems like a DVI to HDMI cable should be something available locally.

If you want to go VGA to component, there should be something out there less expensive than $100, since you are talking about analog in to analog out. I know the video card I’m running came with the ability to run S-Video, VGA, DVI or component out.

My lappy only has Svideo & Vga out.

this cable looks interesting.

the one article said that HDMI is like a USB connection.
unfortunately i got a plasma without a dvi imput. it has 2 hdmi & 2 component (RGB) & 2 analog (RYW) imputs.

i did use two cables to temporarily connect my laptop to the Svideo & the headphone output. but the resolution was poor.

or at least i couldnt figure out what res to change to. But i think its a limitation of the S-video correct?

cheapest you are going to find, you don’t “really” need the box, but it is nice to have the signal booster.

everything else is going to be about $100

Also make sure that your laptop can do the resolution that the TV does, its not just a plug it in and it will work thing

Interesting.

i wasnt sure if the signal would be the same VGA to RGB.

ill look to see what my TV can display.

The TV should support a few different display modes, and the laptop refresh rate will be 60HZ, which is what the TVs want anyway. Worst case, you’ll need a driver update on the laptop to make things work.

Be careful, though, since the TV is a plasma, I’d be REALLY wary of burn-in. The first thing I can think of is that you might end up with a permanent shadow on the bottom of your screen where the taskbar is.
