most cats are a three stage setup
first stage being the ‘honeycomb’
its like a honeycomb thats coated with soe chemical (forget what it called)
this chemical attracts nitrogen particles. in doing so it seperates nitrogen from oxygen in NO.
once serpated, they tw seperate entities exit the exhaust. seperated they are completely harmless.
if you were to remove your cat right now, hold it up and watch your honeycomb fall out in dust and chunks. it will happen.

my friend, (willx) did 7 etest on his KAE and it failed miserably, Each time worse and worse. He in fact, did change practically every god damn thing you can imagine to get it to pass legally. But no can do. So i felt bad, really bad, cause he spent thousands of dollars, including two full catback exhausts, a couple of 02 sensors. So i hooked him up with an etest, we used a 96 accord to pass it on 2 speed idle. By then it pass with flying colors (ha ha). I think thats the only way to pass high milage KA’s. The certified etest tech is in london england at the moment, so i can’t really help, but i’ll ask a couple more guys to see if they wanna do it for ya. i’ll msg you when i get one that will, i can just tell em its for a booty girl. they can’t resist.

Once It fails, they make the money on the repair. Anyways She brought it by Nissan and I fix it for her. Here’s you egr BPT tube. Cracked is the usual due to exhaust gas pressure flowing through it.
It took me maybe 5min to change that rubber tube and her NOx was down to 100ppm. If it was a normal cust I would have gotten 1hour to dia on the nox and then like another .5 to change it. Way better than a brake job. LOL
Would have have gotten more diag time to fix the HC and CO, really it was a cold cat like I said it was. The HC reading I got was 64 of 64 cause the O2 sensor was lazy, only going from about .40v to .6v A new O2 will drop that big time, but its not completely gone yet and we didn’t have on in stock and couldn’t get one cause i did it after 6. All in all, it still has the same cat on it, and past well. The bill Shawren left with?? $35 for a e-test. Rubber hose I had in my tool box for the egr bpt. Honestly for the people in this thread calling a cat and tell her to fake pay for a e-test arn’t any better than the ass clown tech who called the cat to begain with. You guys would have costed her more money than needed.
That EGR BPT hose is the one off boomheadshot car. Like I said, I didn’t touch the cat or the O2, just checked the O2 voltage with consult and it pass. Proberly put an O2 in it on the weekend cause this on is lazy and a new one will save her on gas.

i had the exact same problem like a month ago (Failed terribly). I got a new cat for 150 bucks from some place locally, installed it my self which is stupid easy btw.
Got some guaranteed to pass shit from CT, drove around alot before the test and i Killed it. this was on an SR too, i passed cleaner then my KA.

edit: I’m going to try to pass my KA-t legally this weekend. need a new O2 sensor and a cat first. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try it as a hotrod as my EGR is not hooked up. Will that make that much of a difference?
I meet her before I did her etest she wanted to buy my sportlines I had for sale. I fixed a hell of a lot of people cars on this board for free. Remember Krimzen with the candy apply coupe on gram lights. His sr car was down for 2 and half months and went to a couple shops. Then he made a post looking for help, I knew him a bit cause he live up the street. Went by and it had a broken intake cam. It was up and running the next day cause I had a parts SR in the garage and I took the cam out of it for him. I helped a lot people from gonad, I do most of heatw work, syd, varun brings his car to the dealership. Ask any of them if they paid me?? \Some of the job I do for the challenge and some just to help out. Krimzen didn’t even pay for the cam, just beer. I just don’t help people that are smartasses. I used to post in tech but to many smartasses are in that tech forum.
Thats my issue with KA-T’s you don’t get hotrod by law, so if they do hotrod for you it’s actually illegal. You need a different displacement block for hotrod. Some places don’t care though. Cars without egr NOx is controlled by the cam durations/overlap and timing. I never actually play with a KA-T on the dyno. If you going to try it, run the stock cat, aftermarket cool down way to quickly. By the time the dyno is ready the cat cools off even with the car idling and then the heat up while doing the test and by that time it fails.
Well think of it this way, Cats don’t die of old age, they only get murdered. If your cat is bad and you get a new one, its only gonna fail again soon. Gotta find out why your cat got destroyed in the first place. I don’t know what condition your car is in, or what happened to your cat but if your combustion is inefficient, the emission components arent working (air injection, egr, pcv etc) or you’re burning oil then to get it fixed for good you may have to check those things out before replacing a cat. Or just get a temporary fix if you don’t really care lol Just an FYI
