Thats so you will add the remaining shipping cost into the starting price. And then you guessed it, they can further tax you.
As long as Craig Newmark is there, it will never become ebay and considering he’s not a sellout either, you can expect CL to be the way it is until he’s dead.
I use ebay to calculate value on some things, but sell on forums and CL.
I’ve been paying eBay an average of $6K/month for their fees and that’s WITH powerseller discounts.
However, i wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t worth it.
Thats not everybody but it sure seems like that sometimes. Everytime I put a computer part up here (for retardedly low price) and get lowballed to death even more than my initial discount. I had a 150gb raptor hd and my best offer was $50 haha. Turned around and ebayed it and got $150 for it. I guess the only good deals people recognize on here are for car parts.
I use ebay sporatically, usually once I have Exhausted the CL/Forums option, or I know it’ll do better there. Recently I sold a ton of stuff, with some of it selling for 2-5 times what i expected.
I actually had 5 old P2 computers I got for free and tried to sell them for $10 each. they worked when I got them. No one wanted them, even at $5. So I removed the guts and figured that the Cases would sell. Nope, not for $10 or even $5 each. So I decided to ebay the parts. Jackpot. One video card sold for $40, and another one went for $255. Needlesstosay, I just scrapped the cases, and will be either giving away or trashing the rest of the parts relatively soon.
I also ran into the issue with the set priced shipping, and it is only for certain catagories. You need to be selective on the catagory and choose one that kinda fits. Unfortunately, there isn’t much description of it online, and you have to get most of the way through before you find out.
This. Hopefully a better auction site comes along, charges half the fees, and sinks eBay. We can all hope right? Look how fast Craigslist has become the mainstream to list your car, parts, furniture, etc for sale. A few years ago you actually had to PAY to list your shit on Autotrader or in the local papers
Yes I hope another site comes along that can compete with eBay, but I doubt it will put eBay out of business. They can easily lay people off and cut their fees in half. Or eBay will buy them out when they see a threat. eBay has so much cash built up and their business has very VERY low overhead.
Edit: I remember watching a show about eBay on MSNBC, and there is another decent auction site out there but not enough users to pump your auction up.
i am signed up on bonanzle to try to sell me coilovers and its a nice place, minimal fees and you dont pay to list every time you only pay once the item sells plus you only have to put it up once and it stays up until gone and you have a wide range of payment methods. but…there are not a lot of people that use it so not a lot of traffic
fuck ebay.
Lots of hate…
Interesting…
eBay better figure it out soon. It will be quick and painless for them when google decides to start and auction site.
The problem is lack of decent competition.
This made me lol at about 3:18 in.
^ Is this a guy or a girl??^
Is it worth it to you to hire a person to just put ads on craigslist and answer calls/emails about it?
The one downside I can see to selling appliances on craigslist, is that people will want to pickup, otherwise they won’t trust you.
An ebay powerseller rating buys you a lot of credibility.
At the height of my auto parts sales business, I was paying about $1300 per month to ebay, but this was for a store that had over 3000 unique items. The store fees went through the roof, and I had to leave ebay.
Selling on my own website gave me much less credibility.
i buy a few things off of fleabay, usually nokia cell phone parts from hong kong, and if i had to take a hit on any of the items it’s always less than $5-10 so i won’t cry much.
