Ebay, do you still use it?

I use to sell a lot on ebay and had stopped for about a year. I sold something last week and was shocked at how much ebay screws the seller now.

First, they wouldn’t let me charge the full amount for shipping as it cost. Evay set a “shipping and handling limit.”

So, on my $200 sale I already started out negative $5

Then the final value fee was over 11% of the sale price. Thats another $18.

$23 just to use the ebay “service”, which actually has zero customer support.

The they force you to use paypal which again charged me another percentage for their “service.”

No more ebay for me.

I use it when I am selling parts that there doesnt seem to be any other market for. But I agree, the amount that they charge for fees is getting out of hand. They make the fee on the ebay site and then again on paypal which is ridiculous.

I cant stand fucking ebay but I do use it from time to time.

I have always been able to set my shipping costs to what i wanted?

My biggest grief is that the online shipping calculator like doubles what it would really cost to ship something.

I usually only buy things, when I do sell I use half.com, nyspeed, or craigslist.

selling through forums is way better…

Ill buy things on there from time to time… but not often.
Like the miller trailblazer 302 I bought, got it from a seller on Ebay… but he refered me to his website (which is selling it for $250 less), and I bought it from them directly.

Except for this forum when people lowball you on a $20 item, then you have to wait for them to get their tax return before you get paid. Just sayin…

Edit: And yes eBay is ridiculous. I still sell about 5 items/week on there because lack of a better medium. In the beginning eBay was awesome for finding deals on items sold be a private seller. Now it’s so full of companies selling things for close to retail that eBay can get away with nickel and diming the shit out of you.

I tried getting around that by adding “I will accept money orders or a cashiers check” into the item description, but the eBay software detected that and wouldn’t let me post the item til I deleted that sentence. The message that popped up made me feel like I had broken the law.

i use eBay everyday. It’s a necessary evil…and they know it.

How come you can click it for forms of payment then? Nobody wants to wait to send a money order if they can get the same item that much faster.

I just sold a broken ipod for 58 bucks.where else can i sell something broken and make that much money?

The founder of ebay lives about a mile from me. He bought an entire neighborhood before it was built to build a monstrosity of a home. Someone has to pay to run the 70 surveillance cameras and pay for his private security haha.

Yeah i use that shit, last i bought was last week.

Haven’t sold anything on there since my dsm partout last year. And i sold my car last year for a 1/4 more then what people in wny were offering me.

But yeah their seller fees are getting out of hand.

i stopped selling when i tried selling my coilovers for my miata and noticed that the final value fee would be $100 if it was sold and then another $60 for paypal so i am losing almost $200 on them because of fees. i listed for a few weeks and then never put it back up again because of that, probably wont list much of anything on ebay anymore

I see things sold all the time without paypal as an option. You guys must have missed something. And I still use eBay to buy things all the time.

Just to buy, I use forums and CL to sell.

I used to sell a bunch on there, now I just buy once in a while from them.

If you are looking for many things, be careful. Many sellers of electronics and stuff like that are in China, it takes quite a while to ship your 10 dollar item direct from China.

I recently sold a laptop on there, paid about 50 dollars in fees total. Next time I’ll just put it on craiglist.

Not too much these days, seems a lot like an online store now. With people rarely auctioning anything.

its become an expensive classified ad

Give it time, craigslist will follow in its footsteps. That website has blown up, and eventually they will be adding fees too.
