so i have a set of wheels that are 225/40/18 and the street of Queens are killing me but i dont wanna get a high profile tire … but il like to know if 45 profile wheel makes any difference… does a 45 profile protect more the rim and does it smooth the ride more thsn a 40?

Are you protecting the wheel from potholes so it doesn’t bend or the faces of the wheel from curbs? A change from 40 to 45, while keeping the width the same, is so small that if you nail the same pothole with either tire the rim is still getting fucked up. If you are really worried about it, I would sell the 18s and step down to a 17 or even a 16 if they will clear the brakes. If you’re protecting the lip of the wheel you need a wider tire, so you want to go up to a 235 or 245.
