What does the EGR Valve look like and where exactly can I find it? Birthday’s next week and I’m thinking the EGR Valve needs to be cleaned in order to pass emissions.
Just get a new one, there not that much.
hey welcome to the club my egr is screwed too
i think mine is too
CT quoted me at $170 plus tax and Parts Supply quoted me at $230. I can’t afford that right now.
EGR valves are locates on the exhaust manifold area and its very easy too free up take it apart and soak it in (CCC) Combustion Chamber Cleaner or a good cleaner and make sure the vlaves or plunger what ever type it is, make sure it moves freely
they are not that much, i will find out what my work sells them for tomorrow.
Or you can block it off.
I passed without an EGR or AIV, with flying colors.
As long as your motor is in decent shape, along with your O2 sensor and cat, then you are fine. The last two are what make the most difference in emissions.
The plumbing for the EGR ties into the exhaust, but the valve itself is on the back of the intake manifold.
I found is quite tedious to get to.
Thanks a lot guys.
yes i know its not the exact area i was just letting him know roughly where it is
EGR is very different than PCV.
PCV is small, cheap and easy(er) to replace.
EGR expensive and hard to change. Much easier if you just block it off. Then again, to block it off properly, you have to remove it and make/buy a block off plate, so it’s not really any easier.
But I think what you are looking for is the EGR SOLENOID which is not actually on the back of the motor.
The solenoid controls how much vacuum the EGR valve actually sees and when they go bung, it can screw up how the EGR functions.
Don’t know where for sure it is on a KA/SR, but it will be a little solenoid with 2 vacuum lines and connected somewhere to the EGR. It will also likely have an electrical connector.
Best bet is to find someone with an FSM or who knows … don’t have any KAs in plain sight.
