Electric Car Owner Arrested For Stealing 5 Cents' Worth Of Power

I’m a Volt owner and I also think the Leaf owner was in the wrong. 100% wrong. I wouldn’t think of plugging in my car to another outlet without permission. “That doesn’t belong to me.”

Before I owned my Volt, the hedge trimming crew for my apartment complex plugged their equipment into my external outlets all the time to do their work all day. I got quite mad and actually went outside and unplugged them while they were taking a break. It didn’t happen again. I wasn’t mad because of the cost, but just for the principle that I pay for it and they didn’t ask. Over the months that they did it, it may have cost me $5. I wouldn’t have cared if they had simply asked…

I’m 100% for this person getting taught a lesson, but jail time seems a little steep. Of course, this made national tabloids I’m sure, so this example wasn’t just for the Leaf owner I’m sure. Just because you have a fancy schmancy electric car doesn’t mean you get to plug it into another persons outlets.

P.S. I am not a hippie. I don’t give a crap about how my Volt may be helping the environment. I bought my car because of math. I’m saving a lot of money… Electric cars rule!

I understand your point about the principle with the landscaping crew but I also look the the thought of knocking on everyone’s doors all day to trim hedges.

I would prefer knocking on doors all day knowing that the hedge was already trimmed…
