electronic rust protection?

I was looking at a crappy tire flyer and they have this “CounterACT Rust Protection” unit that sends a electronic charge throughout the vehicle to prevent rust.

Costs 199.99 and up depending on size of vehicle I would imagine. I wonder if it works, anyone have any more info?

I work there and have had many questions brought up to me about that by customers. It is a great system but the price turns off many people who dont have much money to spend on this. I have got some reviews on it and most say that they have had no problems on it.

Since that thing send a electric charge throughout…will it affect anything like the stereo, etc? (i know sumb question.)

thats not a dumb question at all. I still have to learn more about this system, I will be sure to report in on tuesday when i go to work.

Isn’t this product relatively new?

If so, then you would have to wait really atleast another season to determine how good its working, because there wont be enormous amounts of rust building up on a normal vehicle from one winter’s worth of driving, correct me if im wrong.

hey osad werent you going to buy ‘green93sr’s’ s13?

this product is new to canadian tire but it has been around for a year already in different brands. I will be sure to get more information on our crappy tire version… Man i hate CT.

nwmrkt, yes i was. I was upto the day i was going to go pick the dam thing up. However i was then ever so happily notified that i no longer was able to buy the shell due to not having enough room for it. I will have room this coming spring however and that is when i will buy my car.

I work at CT too… and I can say with out a doubt that this will be another piece of crap, I laughed when I first saw it. Most of there new auto products suck ass and I don’t think this will be an exception. I know the science behind it but I doubt that this thing will work.

you know whats funny, we were pming and i was ready to take the car off of him…then he informed me the car was “sold”. My heart just dropped when I read that.
( sorry for the thread jack)

Check again now. But i think he just sold the shell last wedsnday unfortunately. Im sorry man, you know i felt the same way when i found out i couldnt even buy the car cuz i had nowhere to put it.

I bought a 1999 GMC Jimmy with one installed already. It was in decent shape, but nowhere rust free. I’d rather spend the 200 bucks they charge for the thing to just get an oil spray every year.

in theory this can work…when metal rusts there is two thing happening…metal is loosing electrons and water for example is gaining them…if in theory u send a electronic charge through out the entire car, it could not rust. This can happen because u are constantly supplying the metal with electrons making it in tollerable to rust…we did this in chemistry class, and it worked on a small model.

BUT as to how good these systems are who knows…honda has it on their cars, and as long as u go to the dealership every x amount of months the body/frame is warrantied for life…so it can be worth it if u get it from a dealer

this product is not new at all…in the early 1990’sgmc had experimented this product on their trucks…i beleive it was an add on that very few trucks would have had it put on

but to each their own…me personally i would rather take the time to sandblast the frame of ur summer car. Paint it with POR-15, then get it oil sprayed every year or other year and not winter drive…just have a winter beater

Thanks for the insightful information, i would never buy that little box unless i got it with the OEM company.

thats funny i saw that thing at crappy tire this weekend and was gonna post on the forums if anyone had any experience with it… I didnt think it was that expensive (if it works) I mean oil spraying cost 110 or so 200 doesnt sound too bad. Been reading up on this form of rust proofing and it seems it has been around for awhile now I believe the military etc use a form of electronic rust proofing. Dunno anyone have any experience with these electronic rust proofing? and if so what brand?

Hmmm, if you could find a way to ramp up the voltage and wire it into an existing security system it would make for a pretty cool anti-theft device!

Someone touches your car and ZAP-O!
