@#$%&!!! I just phoned Leo Panis, the Parts Manager at Mills Nissan this morning ('cause I was actually interested in ordering a part), and just to confirm I asked if our (Z Club) parts discount was still 15%. He said “no its 10%.” WTF? I asked “since when?”. He said “its always been 10%” (which is BS. It used to be 20% before it was changed to 15%… and now apparnently 10%). Maybe since HE’S been there, since he’s relatively new (ie. less than a year). He said all the Nissan dealerships “collectively decided to make the discount 10%”. And that may very well be true, but this was never officially communicated to the Z Club. ??
Hmph. Maybe the Nissan clubs need to “collectively decide” to boycott Nissan dealerships… WTF?
Ehh…Nissan parts, Ford parts - all the same really.
Nice of them to let you guys know about the discount knockdown. Honestly, per capita who is going to buy more parts: A) joe/jane-blow off street, or B) Nissan crazy guys who probably rebuild parts of their own cars.
Or a shop to which they only offer 15% too, and buy way more parts than us collectively. I understand thier point, but they should have said something to the Z club powers that be. I am one for giving tehm value for money, so that may put us to 15% all the time. My employee discount is much better than the NECC discount, so it doesn’t directly bother me.
so far my expericnes with west end nissan have been awsome, there is one mid 20 year old guy there that is awsome with the parts, very easy to deal with. i say get sponsorship with them. as for fullblown i wanted to try them but they never sent me a pm back on install prices (?)
As I tried to explain earlier there are issues with this dealership and its going to take MORE than just your personal experience (at the parts counter) to wipe out 10-15 years of bad vibes. (And conversely it takes more than a couple bad personal experiences at Ericksen’s parts counter to wipe out ~15 years of overall good vibes. Even with the occasional trouble I run into I will always go back to Ericksen).
There’s more involved when getting sponsorship than just showing up to collect on your discount. The sponsorship arrangement between a business and a car club implies a two-way relationship. Dealerships have no obligation to do this but when they do they are in it to get something out of it too, and not just your personal business of buying parts. They expect you to be a draw for business overall, that you will refer friends, relatives etc. to come to their dealership.
And even if we did want to get their sponsorship, that doesn’t mean that they’d want to to sponsor us. West End Nissan has never seriously wanted any involvement in the Edmonton Z Car Club, and and that club is a well established club with 15+ years in the city and an older demographic with potentially more spending power. If they didn’t go for that, what makes you think they’d suddenly be interested in sponsoring NECC?
Bottom line I will not support NECC seeking sponsorship with THAT dealership. If it goes to a members’ vote, I will definately not vote for it. If NECC’s executive decides to dictate which dealerships we get sponsorship with, so be it. Nothing I can do there…
I was just in Ericksen the other day and decided to ask the guy if there was a discount for NECC. He said the only ones receiving a discount right now is the Z club. SCC and NECC apparently Len Lever is awaiting a call from the Presidents of these clubs to discuss the future of the program. What the guy told me was that it hasn’t been abolished it has just been put on hold for our club. So Aaron if you want to contact Mr. Lever to find out for sure the future of the program, apparently he’s awaiting your call.
Are you the new guy in Ericksen’s sales department? I was there a couple friday afternoons ago looking for Jim (Gallagher), and some guy I didn’t recognize came up and said Jim was on vacation and asked if there was anything he could do to help. Was that you?

Yup, I’m new! I probably did but I don’t remember I usually write things down so I do remember…Jim’s back by the way. 8)
I’m willing to give Mills Nissan another chance I guess. They ordered me the wrong engine mounts, TWICE! But they did apologize and refunded my money with no questions asked. So they are a good crew there and they were helpful too. I personally love to go to Sherwood Nissan because they always get my parts right the first time, Dani (the parts girl) is very nice, and it’s close to me. But I’ll go to Sherwood Nissan or Mills, so either or is good for me.
