ErnGotti's RB20-swapped '91 Nissan 240SX Coupe

Hey everyone! My name’s Ernie and I live in Amsterdam/Perth area. I have 2 project cars right now, and this is my first. A huge headache but I have so much into it already that I’m not gonna bother getting rid of it… so here goes:

Things the car came with:
3" turbo-back catless stainless exhaust
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
GReddy Turbo Timer
Really nice white inlet filter
Electric Fans
Rear 1995 240SX 5-lug upgrade
Skyline Gaugecluster Tach
Autometer SuperTach II
Autometer ProComp Boost & Oil Pressure gauges

Things I’ve fixed/replaced:
Installed a Z32 master cylinder to fix reservoir leak
Installed HKS SSQV BOV
Replaced 5 lug rear calipers with 4-lug ones (they were seized and the e-brake cable wasn’t compatible)
Replaced OEM aluminum Waterpump and eliminated coolant leak/frequent overheating
Replaced Sending Unit and O-ring gasket to stop gas leak
Had front wheels/tires balanced
Replaced rear tires with Falken FK451 GR-Betas (didn’t do much good)
Installed Aluminum vent gauge pod holder
Replaced a couple vacuum lines
Installed NGK Iridium Plugs (heat range 6 - coldest available for that plug size)
Installed a new battery
Installed a coolant catch tank
Replaced upper radiator hose
Replaced missing lug nuts/studs
Replaced rear pads/rotors
Repaired clutch lines (they were installed backwards) (Well, Don did…)
Bled clutch/brakes
Installed bolt to secure right rear lower control arm
New wipers
SEVERAL fuel lines as well as fuel filter
New Aluminum Griffin radiator
After repairing multiple fuel lines, I was able to eliminate the fuel bog-down as well as the incredible horrible idle issues
Two carrier bearing bolts had lost their nuts (hee hee) and were sliding around - added nuts to solve the problem

Problems I know of:
Weak clutch/Very bad throw-out bearing
Horrible front brakes (caliper bolts are seized)
HVAC doesn’t work
Radio doesn’t work (everything needs to be manually wired with a switch - speakers too)
Seats are shot
Shifter pops out of place & spews grease evertime I start it
Tach doesn’t work
Speedo doesn’t work
Oil Pressure gauge doesn’t work
Out of alignment
No power steering pump
Lower left clunk (ball jointAND tie rod end are bad)
Needs 5-lug front upgrade
No glove box
Rusty trunk
No hood latch
Headlights need to be manually retracted (but they come up on their own…?)
Loose main wire to fusebox (once fixed should also fix radio/hvac issues)
Loose lighting wire to gauge cluster
Washer fluid reservoir overflows onto the lawn
Sending Unit cover is mangled
Neutral safety switch either isn’t working or isn’t hooked up
Reverse lights won’t come on
It has electric seatbelts!!! I hate 'em
Paint was done by Maaco and traps dirt
Doors were replaced after an accident but the handles/barrels weren’t swapped, so I can’t lock the doors

Things I still need to put in:
Racing seats
95 240sx E-brake handle/cable
Autometer tach adapter (ECU puts out AC, tach
needs DC)
A/F & Voltmeter gauges
Entire lower dashboard/glovebox
SS Brake lines
D/S Rotors/Ceramic Pads
Stage 3 XTD Clutch kit
FMIC Kit (waiting on bolt clamps/diagrams) - Can’t have bumper support on, though, see picture installed

Stuff to be installed yet:

Generic Seats:

18"Enkei LS-5 w/ Chrome Caps, 235/40ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extremes:

Custom FMIC Kit designed for S13s with/ an RB

***UPDATE***Water Pump is finally finished and the car is BACK AND RUNNING!! YAY!

And finally, what I sold to get it:

Hahah I got serious flak for that license plate!! It was a phase…won’t happen again, I promise :nod

Sweet car man, RB20’s are nice motors, to many people go for the “godly” rb26

i liked you until i saw your last pic.

doors over there.

:haha

actually. only people with lots of time and money do RB26. since it requires modded rb25 oilpan, and an rb25 tranny. and just about all the rb25 support pieces. it makes alot more sense to do rb25 and make as much or more horse than an rb26 considering the fact that anyone looking to make serious horsepower on an RB goes large single turbo anyway. people mostly :bowdown RB25, rb26 is a swap outside of the average joes reach. ::slight_smile:

hahah like I said, it was a phase…kinda like “I was in college and tequila was involved”

Yeah, the RB25 is a better alternative to the 26…but I personally like the striaght 6 over the infamous SR motors. More torque, more cylinders, more fun!! Owning the Grand Prix really made me think that I needed a car with torque. It makes me happy inside :tong

nice swap, that interior is super dirty haha :rofl

Haha it was but it is better now. Lower dash still isn’t in, though. That will clean it up a lot, and so will the seats.

ha im only kiddin with ya when can we see it out?

I’m gonna do my damdest to get the pump finished tonight so I can put the fans, radiator & bumper back together and then all I need is coolant.

good luck with that… decent start but i wouldn’t think of driving it the way it is.

thats a serious ride you got there, keep up the good work

Hey thanks man. I just wish I had more cash flow so that I wasn’t struggling so much to get it done. I don’t go out to eat, I don’t go play basketball, I don’t go to Jumpin Jacks anymore because every little bit of extra I have goes to this and it’s just not enough.

I could use a better paying job, but I want one I will actually enjoy. I don’t want to work in a factory. And I’m also not talking about $60k/year jobs, wither. Although that would be nice :tong

:bowdown :bowdown
Nice. Period.

Also where do you live, there was a black RB20 in guilderland 6 months ago, i havent seen him since.

Awesome, man, thanks.

I konw Seamus. He worked on my car before I even knew it existed! He helped with the swap and I have been meaning to ask him a few questions. He might know the cause of some of my headaches.

Nothing works in the car. At all. Except the gas gauge and the seatbelts. EVERYTHING else needs something to fix it.

Not in guilderland. I have owned this car since August last year and when I bought it, the inspection was up in May 2005. This car has sat and sat and sat… If you’re down to help, I’m down for assistance :nod

not a huge 240 fan but you seem to be takeing the steps to do your car right…good luck with the build…as for pontiac over honda :nono :nono i got a vid for ya :mwahaha

Check your Pm’s ;D

Yeah, I’m over that Honda-hatin stuff now. Especially since I now Own one

That car only hit 15.4 @89mph anyways. Nothing to write home about.

The reason nothing works is because of a certain Don Hauser…

yah the wiring drew was working on was going damn near perfect till he sold it to scotty, then him and douche hauser fucking ripped it all apart and thought they could run it on quote “3 wires” thats when all the problems started. as far as a tach signal, did you get a signal converter? or you can run an r32 cluster. :nod

very nice project, and welcome!!!

i’ll be watching this thread. would love to see what she can do when all finished!!! ;D
