Escort Restoration and BPT Swap

Update: The motor is in and everything is hooked up. All thats needed to make it “run” is a fuel filter on the firewall that I want to replace cuz its rotted, and throw a battery in.

The rest of the swap consists of the pedal swap for the standard and clutch setup, shift linkage put on, drive shafts thrown in, and figuring out how to wire the reverse harness on the front of the trany(manual 1.8 has a different plug and more wires then the 1.9 auto).

I’ll have picks in the morning due to no camera on hand.

you arent messing around.

Brian

I want to take more pics of what I’m doing but half the time I forget and things get done super fast.

It was all real simple and it really is a “Bolt in” swap. If you start with a 5speed it could be done in a couple of hours. The hardest part was prying the axels out(until I found out the two piece just unbolted from the block…duh).

nice, you said you wanted to take it to cruise night? I went every week last year I cant wait to see this completed.

Cant wait either. Went there a few times. Saw one or two escorts, and a million hondas. Didn’t stay long tho…

yeah too many civics, we need to change that. get some nice clean escorts in their.

Hell ya

You gotta keep the honda thing on a downlow. People on this site get realy touchy about that crap.:uhh:

oh I know, I got too many people that that I know thatown Hondas to not know how that goes.

hmm…

Sorry bout the delay. Had a job interview yesterday up in the city and it took all day. But I did manage to do some work this morning.

Starting with the pedal swap.IT SUCKED with one person:mad:. Highly recomend having a buddy help you out with this crap. The Brake booster is held on by the support braket for the pedals. But at the same time, the studs on the brake booster held the braket…WTF!? Same thing for the clutch master cylinder. Had to cut carpet away to make things easier. Drop the steering wheel and disconnect the dash harness. Remove the guage cluster so the speedo cable that ran through the bracket was out of the way(had to swap guages and cables anyways do to a temp sensor missread on the LX cluster while BP is in) I HUGE cluster fuck :banghead:that I’m glad is over with.

Removing the GT pedals(easy)

Removing the LX pedals(a bitch)

Both sets side by side

The end result

Shots of the brake master cylinders of the auto and the stick. Notice that one has a hookup for a line to the clutch and one doesn’t. Didn’t notice till I had everything back in the car.

The replacement clutch master cylinder

The Engine all together in the LX body.

Poor raped GT

This is one thing that does suck about the swap. My original miles and now what I have to look a everytime I’m in the damn thing:cry:

Here is the last thing to be installed on the car is soon as I get some bushings. The shifter was super sloppy. before I took it out.

This was a gift from a friend. Bought it for his miata and ended up being the one for a EGT:D. Free HP…!!!

And this is what the BP looks like.

Honestly I had no hopes for this thread off the bat. But honestly it’s turned into quite the project, and damn speedy as well as far as getting it together.

Thanks man. The goal is to have the car on the road by monday. I got the job and wasn’t expecting it. And I realy wasn’t expecting the swap to go so fast…

Got some more done tonight too. The dash harness is out of the GT but it wasn’t preaty and plastic trim broke like crazy. I need to figure out how to bypass that damn neutral switch and figure out where the wires going to the ECU to prevent me from destroying the good interior.

The driveshafts are in and I removed the heat shield on the front section of the exhaust to fit in the shift linkage. Bushings are going to have to wait. And they arent hard to recplace anyways. Front brakes are on as well.

Here is the front brakes assembled and the driveshaft installed.

Underneath where the heat shield used to be. Next pic is the heat shield itself

This is looking really good. That LX only had 60k on it?

for the neutral safety switch you should only have to jump one pin to another and it should work cant remember what one it is

Yep only has 60K on it. Had 45K when I bought it for $100.

I’ll just start touchin wires on that plug to see if It starts up.

How did you only get that for $100? That car is in great shape.

Moving right along:tup:

I worked at a Firestone for a while and this old guy brought the escort in for a diagnostic. “It was running rough”. Ended up being a cracked head, 2 tierods, and one broken spring. The bill was over $2K. He figured the car wasn’t worth it so he decided to leave the car at the shop and pay the diagnostic bill. I ran up to him and said if you sign the title over to me, I’ll pay he bill and you don’t have to pay a thing. Told him the car was in good hands. He agreed and I took the car home the next day. Cost about $100 to fix the car and another $55 to put it on the road.

I hit a road block and I have NO IDEA how to do it. I need to bypass the neutral safity switch. The ECU is making a real loud ding noise when I turn the key to the on position. WTF!?!?!
