My mom bought a house over in North Tonawanda and the previous owner had expanded the cement driveway one car width with crushed stone. It looks like shit, is a ton of work to keep weed free, and she has no use for it. The problem being, it’s a shit load of work to get rid of.
So… Anyone need to make themselves a nice driveway? You can have all the stone as well as the heavy cement curbing that is bordering it on the far side. Only stipulation is if you take the gravel you have to take all of it and you’re responsible if you mess up her property with some rediculously over sized equipment. A little bobcat loader and dump bed truck would make quick work of it.
If this doesn’t work expect to see a “WTBorrow/Rent cheap: Bobcat loader and dump bed truck” thread in the spring.
The first picture shows what looks like a bare spot… it’s not. It was just weeds coming up through that are gone now. There’s a good thick layer of stone from the garage all the way to the sidewalk.
If you are interested in actually paying for the stone removal and topsoil/grass planting let me know. My father does this kind of stuff all the time I can get you his number if you want a free estimate. (pm me)
Should have about 3-5 inches of soil for grass to do well over stone. Otherwise it will die off much quicker in the summer months compared to the rest of the lawn. Of course that is about personal taste, if it was in the back somewhere for me I wouldn’t care, but that is out in the front yard, might look funny during the summer.
