Exhaust Question

Got a question on my exhaust for my Mazda3. I picked up a Mazdaspeed3 exhaust from a guy and Jeff installed it this weekend. I like it and I can feel a little more mid range power on the butt-dyno but it is pretty loud and tends to drone. I did some research and it looks like some other people on the mazda forums have replaced one of the cats (the car has 2) with a highflow cat or I can replace one of the resonators with a 6" universal magnaflow muffler.

I don’t want the car to be extremely quiet but it does drone some which I don’t like too much. What do you guys think would do the job? I was skeptical about using the highflow cat since I figured that would increase the volume of the exhaust.

On a side note, Jackedup probably thinks I am crazy considering how loud his exhaust was on saturday compared to mine

I would think that adding the highflow cat would make the car louder… not that I know that for sure, but just assuming.

Yeah a highflow cat will make it a little louder, but a resonator will probably help with the drone.

I was thinking the same thing. That’s why I am leaning towards getting the magnaflow so that it will quiet things down a bit and get rid of some drone. I was also thinking about putting some dynamat under the carpet to supress some of the sound and road noise.

Dynamat will definatly help

Are you trying to cut down the sound all around or just inside the car?

Mostly just inside the car. I was going to try dynamat under the carpet first. I was just going to pull up the carpet in the footwells for the driver and passenger (not going to take up the center console area or the front seats). Then I will pull up the carpet in the hatch and back seats and dynamat under there. Hopefully that fixes most of it, but if not, I will probably put a magnaflow cylinder muffler in place of one of the resonators.

What a wuss…

Your HID’s giving you too much drone too?

lol

honestly, my drone was pretty bad when i first my CBE on my car… give it a few weeks and the drone will fade out some or you get used to hearing and it doesnt bother you anymore… not sure which one it really is… lol

no farking way will a cat make the car drone more…it will quiet down the exhaust note and droning, and so will an added resonator… :bigthumb:
