I called up good ol Park Muffler about getting a high flow cat converter put in. The guy asks why I want one. And I tell him because my car is WAY too loud right now. He tells me that they soemthing called a Twister that are meant for turboed vehicles. Apparently it takes alot of the volume out and turns it into a whistleish noise or something without restricting your airflow like a cat converter would. Anyone else heard of these or is this guy just blowing smoke up my ass??
Never heard of it, and it sounds more restrictive than a normal cat. And would probally annoy the hell outta you. Google it and see if anything reliable comes up.
Tried that. That’s why I’m asking here. This is about all I could find on the subject…

How it’s supposedly works is it creats a vacumn which helps suck the air through your exhaust and somehow it also reduces noise (says "The dual flow path helps reduce noise). It’s 160$ installed. So it’ll be cheaper than a high flow cat, but I don’t want to put this thing in and have either
a) Marginally quieter for 160$
b) Have an annoying loud whistle (the way he described it was a whistle… didn’t say quiet or loud… That’s why I’m alil wary.)
your being taken like a prostitute on 97st …
I myself would just get the cat put it. It will make a difference for sound, and you wont be clubbing baby seals as you drive around.(courtesy of Dave Colemen, SCC) And I highly doubt there will be any noticeable affect on power. Even so what’s 1-2 hp?. What is this going into?
i can vouch for high flow cat with full 3" exhaust… takes out the high frequencies and makes your exhaust way bassier.
Why would you get a cat? Most likely gonna pay more for a high flow cat because it it designed to reduce emissions, just get a resonator, after all thats what they are for.
The vehicle is a turboed Spec V. I was gonna go with the cat cuz I put a resonator in my car when it was 2.5" exhaust with header and the difference before and after the resonator was minimal. I just don’t wanna spend 200$ on something to have NO Difference at all.
WOW, you really think a resonator will make no difference??
Cats is in your exhaust for emissions first, noise second
Resonators are in your exhaust for noise first, flow second

j/k i’d just get the high flow cat and call it a day. . .
Yes… On a Sentra your going to need 1 big ass resonator… Ask Kyle what happened when he removed his Cat. The High Flow Cat should quite it down a lot.
Why don’t you try something like this:

I’m sure it will work with other exhaust systems as long as the tip is the same in diameter. :drinkers:
my current setup is 3" turbo back, with just a resonator and muffler… and its quieter than many stock exhaust setups, ask Grippy!

I was making a slight hyperbole… The only difference when I had just header after I put the resonator on was it was less raspy… The volume was still there, just no rasp. Maybe it’s my muffler tip. Cuz Sat after I helped Kyle install his header I went for a rip with him and his car is way quieter than mine ever was even when I had a resonator and just header. He has the Apexi exhaust. I like the sound of the magnaflow just hate the volume right now. From what I’ve read here and from thevboard no one knows what these twisters are so I’ll prob just go for a resonator and hope it helps.
Trust me, a resignator wont quiet the vehicle down as much as you would think. I have done many exhausts on many of my previous veicles. Resignators just take out the rasp in the exhaust and give you a nice loud low tone.
If you want your exhaust to be quieter, get a silencer for your muffler, or get a new muffler.
or you could always find out the hard way and spend your money and find out for urself.
just my $0.02 though.
I have the Magnaflow system you have Bmason… Mines just 2.5in… If I removed my car my car would sound like ass. Now I think I have one of the best sounding Specs (just ask anyone) and I left the cat in for that reason.

+2, my NX had a full 3" to a single in dual out muffler that was loud as well. I paid about $110 for a 18" resonator. Didn’t do a whole lot.
It you really want to control the sound, it has to come at the cost of flow. ie. a baffled resonator will do wonders for sound, but doesn’t flow nicely.
This whole “twister” exhuast and all the gibberish about turning sound into “whistling” reminds me of whistle tips… WOOWOOOO!!. I’d stay away…
have you thought of this puppy? im going with it this summer.
