F-150 gets pumped up over past decade

During a walk through Ford’s Rouge Factory in Dearborn, Mich., this week, I saw a three-generation lineup of the Ford’s F-150 pickups. I was aware of significant styling differences, but until I saw the new-generation 2009 F-150 next to its predecessors, I didn’t realize how drastic the changes have been.
Macho is the ticket, and Ford, as well as its competitors, have the view that truck buyers – hard-core and personal-use (image) buyers alike – want a pickup with pumped-up size and looks.
Dodge, back in 1994, pioneered this trend toward amplified looks with its revolutionary “big-rig” Ram styling featuring a giant grille and lowered front fenders.
When Ford changed F-150 styling in 1997 from the traditional flat-nose look to a sleek, “modern” design with sweeping headlamps and fenders, there were complaints from die-hard truckers that the look was too feminine.
In 2004, Ford remedied the situation by introducing an F-150 with a more macho, squarish design with tall bed sides, favoring its larger Super Duty sibling.
For 2009, the power look is further amplified.
What do you think about the evolution of Ford truck design? Is Ford hitting the target or has it gone over the top?

The front looks alot like all the new GM trucks

Holy hell that is a big difference.

need something colorado sized in the line up

i think they just keep getting better and better with age…

I would only drive one if it were bigger and more manly.

now that is a manly truck…

I drive my friends alot and they have the first and 2nd generations pictured there. I must say the 2nd gen is much better than the first so I can only imagine that the 3rd is amazing. If I could justify the cost of one vs/what I need a pickup for I would consider one.

Very sharp

They have only improved, in towing ability, styling, and interior. I would NEVER drive an old F150.

nice, I like the new design

never cared much for the 94-ish era

off topic but suzukifreek your sig is absolutely huge, might want to change that.

that difference is ridiculous btw. i never noticed it on the streets but lined up, its huge

Hell yeah Jay McKee style:pimp:

i have almost been squashed by that thing several time. jay lives by me.

I had a '91 and it may have been more comfortable than my VW. Leather steering wheel, big comfy bench, power lumbar. If only it wasn’t such a gas hog rotting pile of shit I would have loved it.

I guess in 5 years they’ll come factory with stacks?

The difference might be noticeable… but they also took the picture from the side of the biggest truck… Angles change stuff too.

PERSPECTIVE.

true.

myspace angles ftl.

I have a 06’ and love it. I haven’t had one problem. I really like the new 09s

I like the looks of the new Ford truck as well. With the exeption of the amber signal lights being below the headlights. That looks kinda gay.

my dream truck is still

murdered out F650

All those F-150s look like crap. The F-150 hasn’t been a good truck since 1996.
