F1 1986 vs. F1 2011

Saw this on another forum and thought it was a cool side by side comparison to see how far technology has come in 25 yrs.

I don’t want to turn this into a debate about how technology effects motorsports, so I’ll just say that was an entertaining view into how motorsports have changed in the past 20 odd years.

Why even mention it to begin with or bother with a reply?
:ham:

The 2011 version looks like a dumb video game where the laws of physics don’t exist. I like the feel of the '86…seems more pure.

This doesn’t seem like it’s the best comparison that they could have done…

Where are the improvements besides better cameras?

If you read the comments that was a warmup lap for Senna. He had the pole in 85 at 1:20:45 and Prost had it in 86 at 1:22:627. Wonder what Senna could have done with modern 2011 tires back in 1985 with no other changes.

Here, if you guys have 2 hours to kill watching video’s on line during your work day, check these out. I fucking love how they have to assemble the block with that bridge and watching them make the block is amazing.

I saw my first live f1 race this summer…the Canadian GP. I was glad that it rained. Got to actually see the drivers work to stay in control. They looked like slot cars in the dry sessions. Made for a very entertaining race.

I feel like most would agree that technology has ruined motorsports to a degree.

Hell, I would even watch nascar if the cars still looked anything like this.

That guy in '86 would have probably run faster if he kept both hands on the wheel.

“There is nothing stock about a stock car”

+1

I’d prefer stock cars over “stock cars” … you put a stock Mustang and a stock Camaro with a couple Challengers, EVO, STI, etc (Sub-40k) on a track with some drivers and then the musclecar wars will really be on.

Same track, same day. Better than magazine racing!

^^ I’m with jack, the firehawk series ( not the stupid F bod) used to run like that, they were awesome to watch.

I agree with that to a certain degree.
I also think money/huge sponsorships has had a part in it as well.
