FACTS on HIDs/Projectors

[quote=“tweety,post:20,topic:26223"”]

WTF would any want chromatic aberration in the beam, I’ve spent half my life trying to get rid of it- jeez what’s wrong with white light??
Seriously though I can make us the most baddass headlamps yet divised!

haha, if you could find a way to make it even bigger, the people on HID planet would blow you.

All that blue light is the refractive index of the glass varying with the wavelength of the light, which makes the coloured fringes .
A bit of coating on the lens would get rid of that, or some better glass- LOL

people amplify it by tilting the cutoff plate inside the projector. I’m 100% serious about people wanting to blow you by making that blue stripe bigger…

Ah well you see we do have some most splendid optical design capabilities, and access to all sorts of clever lens systems. In a former life I did a lot of this kind of work- we shall have to see, dang I just sold the spare Skyline lights to OriginalSin, I’d better hang on to them for a while !

i like the small bit of color with the white light. newman you have the most riced lights of anyone

nice copy from HT :stuck_out_tongue:

so…what if your car comes stock with projectors, but they’re not HID? is it gonna have the same shitty glare effect if i get a HID kit?

Mr. Newman it has been my experience that people want the dumbest things, but give the people what they want then- EASY SOLUTION and this one is FREE, get yourself a bit of blue dichroic glass cut into a thin strip, attach in the relevent part of the optical system and BOOM you’ve got your band of blue light.
I’m sure you’ll get into trouble with the cops and the DOT, because there are strict guidelines about headlamps- but hey that’s the driver’s problem.
Some of the new LEDs would probably work as headlamps too- but ssssshhhh… not for public discussion just yet!
If anyone wants me to take a look at fitting an HID to an existing unit email me and we’ll see where this goes?

well are alot of people on h-t? nope! so i brought over good info and added some more

tweety you are talking to a kid who put blue hids in his car. newman is the last to talk about ricer headlights

lamp+ projector+lens = headlamp assembly, you change the lamp then you at least need to modify the reflector and most car OEM lenses suck,
I shall start with the Skyline, I’m off to the barn to take those spare units apart- now see what you started- grrr

thats why you retro fit projectors designed for hids in your headlights

Why not change the colour temperature by getting the lenses coated, not very efficient but if it’s blue he wants…
Jeez these days we could make the things change colour while you drive down the road, then the cops would be REALLY pissed.
I shall be bending up some shiny ally - agghhh back to this old shit again- thanks boys…

my ricer headlights are brighter than yours.

the blue is very small for the second time. its a bonus to haveing very white lights. its only in the cut off and not the entire beam. we dont want blue lights, the blue is only visible during flicker

no they arent lol, your low beams are def not. the high beams are bright because they are in halogen headlights and you drive with both on like a true asshole lol.

his first proposition would work though. probably very well. Intead of canting the cutoff, put a 1/32 strip of blue glas on top of your cutuoff.

id have to see what he is talking about hands on.

id like to have more colors of the spectrum in the cut off instead of just blue.

Boys juat let’s be clear, excuse the pun again, white light is made up of the colours of the rainbow- remember that in school, acually you need to factor in the UV and IR too, but that’s not for this discussion, the blue line is just a by-product of crap optics, nothing more nothing less.
I was joking when I suggested the blue dichroic- but I see Newman thinks this is a grand plan- now who has the brightest ricer headlamps- well move over rover let Andy take over- LOL.
And if you want more colours put a prism in beam and you can project rainbows- we could all go back to the 60’s- yeah baby…
Now I got my feet wet wading down through the snow to get to my barn, how do these FFFFing japanese things come apart???

Ah the plan’s changed my 2 year old just woke up, lighting will have to wait a while, this has been most illuminating hasn’t it…
Just a quickie I got the lamp out of the thing and I can see some kind of a shield inside the unit, they CANNOT possibly have done this by simply blanking off part of the beam- jeez I thought Skyline were high tech’ that shit goes back centuries!
Ho hee hum sqwarking infant requires attention. bye bye for now
