FC UtrechtUTRECHT, Nov 29 (SW) - Dutch club FC Utrecht is in mourning after defender David di Tomasso passed away on Tuesday. The cause is unknown uptil this moment.
In the first year of his career at FC Utrecht, he was announced as player of the year by the club’s fans. Every supporter of FC Utrecht fell in love with Di Tommaso when he joined FC Utrecht in the summer of 2004. He found his place immediately, inside and outside the lines.
In a short amount of time, the popular central defender had a place in the starting line-up of coach Foeke Booy. The biggest compliment for his performances may be that the club attracted another two French players.
Di Tommaso was trained in the youth of AS Monaco. He had a role in the Champions League and he won the French Championship as reserve. Because of that he got himself a place in the selection of the national French youth team. Due to the enormous competition at the French club he played only 14 games in three seasons.
When he was 20 he chose to join Sedan, a French Club from the first division. He developed himself as a reliable source and drew attention from the scouts of FC Utrecht. Five times they looked at his performance and they were convinced that he should be the successor of the Dutch defender Patrick Zwaanswijk.
Di Tommaso only knew the traditional Dutch top three (Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord), he admitted. He didn’t know FC Utrecht but that changed quickly. The first impression of di Tommaso was very positive and he already knew FC Utrecht was a club that suited him. Although several clubs showed their interest, he, with his wife Audrey and his son Noah, chose for FC Utrecht.
Last Sunday he had a very important share in the 1-0 victory to Ajax. A victory that was celebrated in exuberant manner with his teammates and the supporters. His life ended early Tuesday morning. David di Tommaso was only 26 years old.
turns out after i did some further reading, he died of a heart attack at age 26
