Hi boys and girls. Up for sale (though more of a feeler) is my 82 Maxim project. It has 21k on the clock, though I was told that the gauge cluster currently on it is not the original one so I can neither confirm nor deny the mileage. But it definitely runs like it has less.
I originally bought the bike to build a hard tail cruiser but changed my mind and decided to build a little caffe racer out of it. With all honesty I have very little time and way too many home projects to catch up on in order to play with the bike. But im also not opposed to it sitting in my garage indefinitely until I do get some free time.
When I first got the bike I changed the oil, got a set of carbs for it(old ones were gone), new carb boots, battery. Put gas in it, and it started right up. I ran it for a bit drove it around the neighborhood, did a quick jog on the highway and back into the garage it went. Brakes work great(for an 82 bike) but i did notice that the forks had began to leak a little. Instead of rebuilding the 38mm original forks, I picked up a set of 41mm forks from an older ninja with about 8k on them. Actually I picked up the whole ninja front end minus the front wheel and handle bars. ZX6E wheels can be found on ebay for around a 100 bucks, usually with the tire. As for the engine…The bike actually ran very well and shifted flawlessly. No weird noises or clunking.
All the ninja parts I have will go with the bike if asking price is met (or reasonable offer) that means forks, triple clamps, master cylinder, brake rotors, calipers, hoses, rear sets with shifter and brake linkage, and anything else I might have forgot. Keep in mind the fork swap isnt as easy as putting a cold air intake on a honda. You actually need to be able to do basic math, and also be able to use a measuring tape. The triple clamp stem will need to be cut and shortened. So access to a welder would also be needed. I also have a gas tank off of a Secca that will go with the bike. The gastank has been repaired however and needs a serious cleaning. Also In order to mount the tank permanently on the bike the rear gastank mounting bracket will need to be cut off the frame and slid back about an inch. Again, basic mathematics, measuring skills, and a welder will come in handy :D.
The bad news(though not really):
The bike is currently sitting in my garage in pieces. But nothing on the frame has been cut at all, and I can have it back in one piece in under 2 hours, and will prior to sale. The only part on the bike that has been cut are the handlebars. I basically made my own clubmans out of them, but you can either make a set of bars for yourself, or get a set of clipons (recommended if you run the ninja front end). The tires have plenty of meat left on them and would probably be fine for cruising mildly around town, but I have no clue how old they are so I would change them just for the piece of mind. Also you will need a front sprocket (like 12 bucks on ebay)
The good:
New carb boots. (120)
New Battery.(cant remember cost)
Carbs have been cleaned.
Sweet bike with plenty of potential.
Id like to get $1000 for everything. But am open to interesting trades, or reasonable offers.
I do have the signed title. I havent transfered it in my name so it has just been signed by the seller.
Again I dont have to sell the bike so please dont shoot me a PM asking if Id take 100 bucks and a pack of skittles for it.
