Vintage Bike smokin' deals dump

Since spring is right around the corner and I get PM’s frequently asking what types of bikes to look for and what kinda prices one can expect to pay for a nice cafe racer/bobber/custom-build project, I thought this thread would be a good idea…I tend to browse craigslist DAILY and see all sorts of great deals that disappear quick, maybe this can help some fellow NYspeeders interested in a vintage bike build to score a nice starting platform…

Bikes go super fast and kill people bruhh.

1980 Suzuki GS450l - $375

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcy/3719642317.html

That bike is beautiful for that price, guessing it won’t be for sale very long.

1978 Kawasaki KZ650 - $1000

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcy/3718723018.html

Has some silly touring parts and HD-esque stuff like a monstrous fairing with radio, sissy bar, and king/queen seat…but the bike is a runner and in excellent shape…Could sell the seat/sissy/fairing and probably gain back half your money or more

Honda CL160 - No price or year listed

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcy/3718465544.html

This thing is super cool and perfect for a little commuter. No idea on price but it’s cool!

1980 Yamaha XS1100 - $1500

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcy/3717154092.html

This is a bit on the expensive side as far as a project goes, but these are really a muscle bike from the era and will have gobs of power, yet very smooth to ride due to being shaft drive. These things are ultra reliable and simple to maintain

1974 Yamaha TX500 - $1000

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcy/3700988982.html

just needs a tune-up and a vision.

1978 Honda CX500 - $500

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcy/3713686903.html

this is a pretty terrible looking “custom build” in my opinion, but the bones are good. I really have a weird softspot for these and LOVE the way they look cafe’d. Plus it’s super cheap!

1982 yamaha 650 maxim - $500

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcd/3704611264.html

not much info, so no comments…worth a look though

1982 Yamaha Maxim 400 - $750

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcy/3704602441.html

pic is blurry, description seems fair and correct in that it probably just needs a good carb clean

Yamaha XS650 bobber/hardtail project - $1500 obo

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/mcy/3676740477.html

take it from me this isn’t an outrageous price. there’s a lot of $$$ parts here. That alien tank is $200+, the TCbros hardtail is over $300 plus shipping, the solo seat is about $100, the rear fender is about $100, the mid-control pegs are $100, and the hard stuff is already done. Paint and re-assemble and you’ve got a nice hardtail bobber for a very reasonable price.

How much do you think coil packs cost for the 1st one
1980 Suzuki GS450l

This thread will be the death of me…

hmmm…

In case of some of you guys don’t know, I’m super willing to work on vintage bikes for super cheap/reasonable rates…it’s a great way for me to make friends with the same passions. I also am more than willing to teach anyone that wants to learn what I know.

about $40 per coil on ebay. I can’t tell by the pic, but there were 4cyl and twin versions of the GS450…so it may need one, may need two.

Yessssss chooch! <3

I’m thinking about picking up a project bike, I’ll defiantly keep an eye on this thread. Thanks!

I wish bikes sold this cheap down here… its weird, but our pristine harleys and vmax’s etc, sell for dirt cheap. Our project bikes are always overpriced.

Probably because we dont require any insurance on motorcycles if you wear a helmet, so every 16 year old kid buys a bike. (car insurance premiums here are not cheap, ie… 200 a month for liability only if you have any tickets.)

My bike is gonna get an electric conversion with a high power car brushless motor and a 96-140ish volt esc running custom made lipo battery packs…

i’ve seen a few goldwings for sale… just sayin haha

Actually, growing up as a kid my father had an 80’s GPZ 1100, still lame IMO. I’m a honda fanboy remember? Well, obviously are you if you still have the same bike, lol.
