Final Drive Ratios HELP

Ok I will start off by saying I know this topic has been discussed many times on many different Nissan forums. BUT I want to know if anyone in the SON community can help me and maybe had a first hand experience with this topic. So please dont tell me to go do my research. And if I can find out what I need I will be in the market to buy some product within the area.

OK… so what I have read is CA18 180’s came with a 4.363 rear end. Can anyone confirm this? And is it a LSD, can anyone confirm this? If so… does anyone have one for sale?

Next… I have read ring and pinions out of the front of Xterra’s (and maybe Frontiers?) will bolt into a 240 housing… Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone on here done it themselves? S13 or S14? I’ve heard they came with 4.363’s, 4.636’s and 4.90’s. Lastly, if this works, does anyone have any for sale?

I also read R32 RB20 Manual’s came with a 4.363 final drive. Can anyone on here confirm this? Has anyone (on here) attempted to put one in an S13? Laslty if this does work, does anyone have one for sale?

If anyone knows of any other final drive ratios, or anyway to achieve a ratio between 3.00 and 3.25 or between 4.300 and 4.800 I would be very interested in that information and it would be greatly appreciated.

Also has anyone (on here) used the ka24 truck tranny in their S13, or does anyone know what the ratios are in for each gear in the truck tranny?

Any information would be appreciated. I know these things have been discussed on other forums, but they seem to be full of “maybes” and “I think so”. If there was anyone on SON I could talk to that actually knows their shit about these rear ends it would be a huge help, and save alot of time srumaging wrecking yards and buying expensive parts only to find they are useless once I get them home.

i remember this thread recently, check it out (its for the xterra ring and pinion answer, i want to try it out one day if i ever find the right one)
maybe the OP of that thread has tried it

also, i had a site that listed all the final drive ratio but i can’t seem to find it.
i found this though

CA18 180’s i’m sure its VLSD, and from my list it says its 4.363
R32 RB20 Diff will fit on s13, only thing that may be different is the flanges for the axles…they come 5bolt, but usdm 240sx are 6bolt
i have an R33 GTST (rb25det) vlsd rear diff on my s13, pumpkin is similar to that of an s14, has bushings where they bolt up, all i did was switch the diff cover from an s13 diff
and luckily i had the 5bolt axles to go with it, final drive ratio for it is 4.363
forsure i want to try the xterra r/p if i can get my hands on the proper one

Hey Thanks for the info. Through your links I found a site claiming that the ring and pinion from Xterra’s would fit. I find this difficult to comprehend. I bet they are very similar. But not the same. I was told 350z ring and pinion would fit in our rear ends. Not true. We ended up drilling new holes in the back of subrame, cutting, sleeving, welding the axles, because they are too long and welding new mounitng points to the diff for the 2 front bolts into the sub frame. The same for a 300zxTT rear end, with a little cutting of the subframe too because the thing is so damn big. Neither of these ratios work for my application anymore. a 4.363 or 4.636 would be ideal. If a 180 rear end is what we think, Then it should be the easiest assuming direct fit. I can try the Xterra experiment if i can find a diff for cheap. If not then I will probably go skyline diff and axles with a little modification. Would be nice to have something figured out by the end of next week.

I found this too… Some guy says hes done the Xterra Swap 3 times . Anyone know if theres any truth to the front diff in a pathfinder working?4

I will be pissed if I pick up an Xterra or Pathfinder diff and that shit wont swap!

Yea, i have no hands on experience with opening up a diff other than removing the cover, so i don’t know exactly how the ring and pinion fit in there. i’ve just seen pics online but thats not enough.
in the link to the freshalloy forum in the other thread is messed up but this is it.
http://www.freshalloy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174146

i did the car part lookup and found a few in ontario but its pretty expensive
2001 xterra FRONT axle 6cyl SE is 4.636 (the XE comes 4.363 and 4.636 depending on what tire size it came with, junkers will prolly mix up so jus look for specifically SE model)
2004 xterra FRONT axle 6cyl SE is 4.9 (again XE hit or miss it will be 4.9 or 4.363)
lemme kno if you do the xterra diff experiment, as far as i know its straight swap inside your diff, not like the 350z where you need to modify.

another guide of the same thing

i don’t know about pathfinder diffs but i want to go for the 2004 Xterra front diff 4.9 ratio, carpart has alot of 2002 models in ontario…only 1-2 2004 front diff

Ya i found the same forum on freshalloy. I also found the forum with some pics. If its the same one your talking about. All they show is pics of the rear end, and not actually someone doing the swap.

As long as it is an R200 housing swap, everything should fit. You may need a spacer like 10-20mm depending on the nose of the diff, if it’s a longnose or shortnose. I don’t know if I explained that correctly…

the 350z is an r200 dif… but it was not interchangeable… whats the difference between and r200 and an r200v?

R200v is limited slip, R200 is open

Hrmmm, I’m not sure. All R200’s have the same size ring gear, i.e. r200 = 200mm IIRC. So my guess is if it is not interchangeable, then that means the CV shaft design or inputs must be different.

im pretty sure the shaft part of the pinion was thicker then in the 350 then the 240.
