lots of slop. spinning the axles it sounds like playing cards in the spokes of a bicycle wheel. catches here and there. pics of carnage possibly if i feel like taking it apart before trashing it. anyone have a 8.5 outta a zq8/extreme?

I know someone with an 8.8 out of a mustang for like 180. well I dont know the person, but I was given the guys number. it will be a while before I need a rear end so ill pass it along…

I worked as a Quality Rep for AAM. They supplied the axle for the S10s. Sounds to me like you snapped an axle shaft. Not a real hard thing to repair and you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a replacement shaft as the 8.5 was standard on all full size GM pickups, and was used on the S10 Extremes.

IIRC Ford 8.8’s out of an exploder are just about the same width and 100000X stronger than the Gm 7.625
