Finally got the tranny and torque arm mounts on. It took me way too long - all evening til 10:30 last night and a few hours this morning. The torque arm mount pads were riveted on and I had trouble getting the inner one off, then the bolt holes wouldn’t line up on the rear. Oh well, I got to use my new tools though.
There’s a LOT more vibration with the poly now, especially above 80. I guess I expected it though.
Someone said the exact same thing on one of the f-body forums.
I assume this is a common thing. I swear the car feels like it won’t hook as well, but it’s probably in my head. Could the torque just be transmitted better than with the rubber t-arm mount?
Hope my torque arm doesn’t end up like TJs. I should have bought an aftermarket since I had it apart, but the $ isn’t in my budget. I think it’s almost time to start taking off the intake manifold (& other parts). :bigthumb:
Right on, glad you got it fixed. It is sort of a PITA job, that’s why my poly mount has just been sitting in my garage! Of course, now I broke the T/A anyway and the LG one I got to replace it mounts w/ a heim joint at the front… so there’s going to be no bushing at all! I also bought the Global West double spherical bearing LCAs so no bushings there either. I already had a LG Adjustable Panhard Rod w/ heims so there’s no bushing there. And I took the isolators off the top of my springs. No rubber in the entire back susp. of my car and the only poly is my sway bar bushings/endlinks… w00t.
That’s weird you feel like you lost traction. The poly front mount is not going to let the torque arm move as much so the rear axle isn’t going to rotate as much. Most ppl find this helps to avoid axle hop and helps traction out.
Anyway congrats on gettin’ ‘er done. So what’s the mani comin’ off for?
The plan is to get the heads ported/polished/valve job, intake manifold port matched, & a cam. I’ve been talking about this for a long time now, and have been researching since winter. I have pretty much all the parts picked out, I just need time to do it! Maybe since school is almost done the activities & practices will slow down (two year olds don’t slow down though!)
