finally got his ass. (Gadhafi)

And they didn’t try to occupy us. They showed up late in the game, helped us pin Conrwallis down at Yorktown, then took their boats home.

Where our own interests end. Goodwill and maintaining allies has its value, but IMO that value has been far over estimated for years. The scary part as that Gen Y seems to think that being “liked” by the rest of the world is necessary for some reason. We wouldn’t have the resources to play world police today if prior generations had taken that attitude.

But by the time the Treaty of Alliance was signed we had proven there was a chance we could actually win. Up until then France was providing mostly monetary aid without actually entering the war.

Kind of like Libya, where the rebels proved they might actually stand a chance of overthrowing Kadafi and the international community stepped up and gave them support. It was bombing from a British jet and a US drone that forced Kadafi’s convoy to a stop yesterday when the rebels captured him. Up to this point I think Libya is a pretty good example of how we SHOULD be involved in these kind of disputes. Aka, no boots on the ground, no going it alone, just providing some tech and firepower.

What happens next will tell how the history books are written though. Hopefully this multinational force that has spent plenty of money on the supplies of war has seen the movie Charlie Wilson’s War.

As silly as it sounds, I think the internet will help. IIRC the afghanis didn’t know where the aid was coming from, and didn’t really care since they believe the thanks for victory belonged to allah alone. They didn’t know or care that we had helped them.

Maybe I’m naive but I’m hopefull that the internet has allowed enough dissemination of information for them to understand that NATO is their friend.

I agree with what that. However, practical application of this theory is impossible in todays world.

I mean, nothing is ever as easy as theory, but spending more time at home is probably a good direction to be going. I.E. McCain was 1st runner up for president and he made it clear he wanted boots on the ground in Libya. Thank God he didn’t win the presidency.

Fry, I was under the impression that you were for all things conservative.

In this case…more like, “Where is the Maginot Line?” :rimshot:

How the hell did this get turned into a thread about WWII reasoning?

Nope. The big party label that most closely fits my beliefs is libertarian.

All three parties (dem, repub, libertarian) fight for the constitution. The difference is the Libertarians have actually read it. :roflpicard:

I like how all the conspiracy theorists are saying why is gadhafi’s body shown on tv but not bin ladin’s…

hiyoooo

My fault. Hitler being bad seems to be the only thing anyone on here can agree upon

THIS

Anyone find it odd/ironic that these new videos and pictures aren’t “too graphic” for our media to publish but we were sheltered from the gruesome Osama pics? Not saying Osama is alive…just saying it’s odd how selective and inconsistent things can be.

Just saw tuners post now. Guess I’m being a conspiracy theorist?

Graphic had nothing to do with it. (Since when does the media have anything resembling a moral?) The press would have printed osama’s corpse in a heartbeat if they had had the chance. The only difference is those pics didn’t leak.

True. True. I just thought I recalled Obama saying something about the graphic nature of the pics. I could be mistaken. I don’t remember much of the news content typically.

Elite seal teams don’t upload cell phone video to youtube the way rebel fighters do.

The press would have run the Osama pictures in a second had they got access to them. The few government officials who had access decided they were too graphic and never leaked them. I’m still surprised they haven’t been leaked yet.
