First Album You Bought??

My dad came home with about 25 new albums every month so I didn’t buy music or even ask for anything for a while. The first album that I asked him to bring home was by Tears for Fears. The album that had “Shout” on it. That was the hotness.

Then in the late 80’s I decided I needed NWA - Straight Outta Compton. I knew there was no way he’d get it. So, I went to the Wiz to buy it and got cockblocked because I wasn’t old enough to buy something with explicit lyrics.

So that was the first one I tried to buy…and I was so pissed I didn’t buy anything that day.

I believe the first tape I actually bought was Aerosmith - Pump shortly thereafter. I was also making mix tapes recorded from the radio all the time so I hardly bought music. I still have all those mix tapes and they’re pretty sweet aside from a few songs that of course are now embarassing. :eekdance:

Hahahaha my older cousin turned me on to “hardcore rap” as they called it. I was listening to NWA, Ice-T, Terminator X, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, 2 Live Crew…etc. when I was like 8 or 9. I remember going to the mall and buying the new NWA - Niggaz4life tape with my friend. I think I was 10 at the time and The Wall didn’t seem to care. My friends mom asked us what we got. He got Black Sheep and I told her what I got because she didn’t care. Then said something that stuck with me forever “I’m going to tell your mom.” Now that I think back on it, her tone was that of just joking around because as I said, she didn’t care what her kids listened to. Anyway, I spent the whole night sitting in my room with the tape hidden under my bed praying that she wouldn’t call my mom. Obviously it never happened but I was paranoid that my mom would find my collection of Explicit Lyric tapes and yell at me or take them away.

Man, I can’t remember that far back… I remember going to the record store with my parents when I was young and they’d usually let me pick out a single. As for albums, it was all about the K-tel compilations at that time.

I think the first Tape I bought was REM and Pearl Jam .
