Fixing cracked paint on fenders

So I got my fenders rolled last year, the paint cracked like crazy and now theres surface rust. I want to roll them even more then repaint the lips so it won’t continue rusting. Anyone have some advice for me, I’ve never done any paint work. I was going to get the Spray can from paintscratch.com and just sand them down and spray. But maybe I should do a little more to ensure no rust? Advice?

Wire wheel, Rust Bullet (or POR15), touch up paint, clear.

umm… if you rattle can your car, its going to look like you rattle canned your car

I’m only talking about the fender lips, inside the wheel well, that you cant see.

Not if you do it right. And yeah, his is in a spot that easily hidden anyways.

If you get factory matched paint in a good nozzle’d aerosol can, and prep it the same as a paint shop would, it comes out just as good. Its just hard to do, so most people probalby mess up.

you should have done this right after you rolled them the first time.
NOW you have to grind and scrape off paint at least 1/8 inch into clean metal all the way around… to do it right. If rust is not removed it will spread.

POR15 is what you need. It also requires the right prep work.

rust bullet > POR15…

not from propaganda but from personal experience. 1000000000000X easier prep, paint/primer actually stick to it (unlike por15) and it lasted for 2+years exposed on my wifes neon that gets pounded in the winter with no washings and lots of salt and it didnt show through. even though it didnt come back, i ground it off to see what it was like underneath and it was perfect.

just do it the right way, dont “fix” it, get it done

Good to know! I had heard good things and bought a little can to stop two teeny tiny spots on my rear fenders from getting worse.

I’ve used rust bullet before as well. Worked in the spot but the rust was still in other places so it rusted around it

i will have to try that. Por15 needs a special primer on top of it for regular paint to stick. God I hate working witht hat shit. Gets all over everything.

I had to use sandpaper to get it off my nose… needless to say that was a bad idea.

I’d love to pay some shop to do it but I doubt I can afford it after all my recent purchases… I’m thinking about going back to the shop that rolled the fenders and making them do something. I paid a lot and I’m pretty pissed that its so bad.

But, If I do it, Rust bullet seems to be the best. The overall prep work is looking like a super pain though.

You have a Dremel. Hit it nice and good with a wire wheel.
