good thing I trusted my gut and chose not to follow that estimate. Alldata shows 5.6 hours to replace the clutch, which includes R&R entire powertrain.
996 Turbo X50 (+about another 100-120hp in mods)
After the flash tune, wasn’t able to go any more than 2/3rd’s throttle without blowing the clutch off.
Before the gutting begins:
This should do the trick:
partially gutted:
I’ll throw some more up later once I get the engine/trans out.
Seems like it would be a good time to throw a pair of larger turbos on, eh?
how much more of a pain is this on the newer models as opposed to the late 70’s early 80’s? i’ve done a few of those and they weren’t as bad as i originally thought. But man does doing plugs on the turbo models suck. Also see it has the classic Porsche oil leak. to good work though.
It takes me about 8 hours to replace the clutch on my supra, which is a rwd drive car. I imagine a mid engine awd car would take me at least 3x as long, but I guess having a lift would speed things up.
blackforest, do u have to drop the engine/trans to get the trans off of just the trans?

Actually, I’ve done engine-out jobs on C2’s, but not awd turbos…yet.
However, I did a bit of poking around on the Rennlist, and found a little workaround, so the gearbox is coming out by itself. Should be out in about a half hour.
Nice the x50 has the different heads/exhaust/ecu correct? Does teh whole drivetrain drop out like on the older 911s so you can work on them easier?

Actually, I believe it’s just turbos and software, but I could be wrong.
Either way, this car is quite a bit faster than a standard X50. I’ve done Milltek high-flow cats and mufflers, fabspeed intake, hyperboost valves, and a custom tune done in real-time by O.CT.
And yes, the drivetrain does come out from below, but it’s a LOT more involved than the older cars.
I ran one of these a few years ago when my car was slow. Soooo deceiving from the regular turbo… it pulled a good bus on me

heh…and this one looks like a dead-stock 996tt, but it goes like stink now. At least it will when I get it back together and no longer blows the clutch off at 2/3rds throttle.
