jesus. I’ve never worried about anything taking off/landing in Buff before. I’ve always just considered that they deal with ice all the time, they have to have that pretty well figured out.
I mean, there is nothing I can do about it anyways, so I’m not gonna worry about it, but still.
What are the odds? As a numbers guy that one just blew my mind.
The only time I worry is when the weather is causing icing. I was on one flight where they de-iced the plane 3 times. The last time we were on the runway when they pulled it back for the 3rd de-icing. I was debating pretending to have chest pains to get my ass off that plane.
Listening to the audio ice was definately a factor for some of those planes in fact some of the pilots sounded a bit frustrated that the ground didn’t realize the problem fast enough. But hey weather around here changes instantly.
I have flown hundreds of times and Buffalo is the worst place to land in my experience.
anyone that graduated from williamsville north 2004?
real time WGRZ interview with Clarence town supervisor:
“As far as I’m being told by on scene officials, this is still a working fire scene”
edit - of course that could just mean smoldering, et al. but damn.
and they accredited some of the prolonged burn time to a poss natgas issue from the house infrastructure.
My dad’s boss was waiting for the plane to take off and when he was told it was delayed he rented a car and drove home.
Then, my dad just saw the list of people onboard and knew the two band members in the Chuck Mangione band. My dad set up a children fundraiser last year where they played and that was the group which played. My dad hung out with them for a day and showed them around Buffalo…
My parents neighbors are doctors at the Roswell Institute and they knew the doctor that perished as well. They worked together side by side for the last 20 years…
With more names coming out soon, I’m curious how many others my family itself will be connected with!
A lady at work said that FOUR of her good friends died in the plane, and that her best friends husband was also one of the few that decided to get a rental car and drive home. When I came in this morning there were 5 girls around her as she was sobbing. It was a sad sight to see.
And ANOTHER girl in my office of only 35 said her next door neighbor knew of a couple that were on the plane as well. She is shook up as well.
nuts

Mary “Belle” Pettys, of West Seneca, was returning to Buffalo area from a business trip to New Jersey. Pettys had spent 25 years working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Western New York and since 2006 had been employed by TriZetto, a healthcare company. She got engaged last December on her 50th birthday, and was to be married this June.
I’m a little confused about this. Because of a 2 hour delay he rented a car and drove 6.5 hours?
… this is why i asked like 5 pages back if anyone at “theblues” could pm me
Two women–Karen Wielinski, 57, and her daughter, Jill, 22–escaped and were taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, where they are in stable condition in the emergency room.
Jill Wielinski is a senior at the College at Brockport.
The paper also reported that Douglas C. Wielinski, 61, is listed as the only adult male at that residence. But, authorities weren’t “absolutely certain” that he was the one killed in the crash.
There was apparently talk that the weather would be too severe and they’d be pushed to the next day.
Apprently he said that the plane was sold out and people cancelled to rent a car. I already know of two people who did it, as they had to be home today and could not wait.
Ok, that makes more sense. Man, can’t imagine how those people are feeling today. Probably heard the news on the radio during their drive home besides.
My dad knows the feeling as well as I do. My dad was supposed to be on the plane that flew into the first WTC tower back in '01. He had to do another day of meetings so he pushed the flight to the next day! (he had to drive home since the airports were shut down.) Talk about being happy to see him when he arrived home!!
