FMIC pipes

hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has some good ideas for temporary fmic pipe. I will be swapping in my sr this weekend, but my fmic pipes will not be ready for a week or two. PVC and grommets from Home Depot were suggested, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas. Also could I turn my fmic upside down, so that intake and exhaust were on top, using shorter pipes/less bends/cheaper? Would any ill effects come of this?

if you put your rad in the right place you could probably put the intercooler AFTER the rad as a temporary thing. PVC works great, but does add up $.

Maybe you shouldn’t rush and wait for your piping to be ready since it will only take a week. I do realize that the spring bug has come to bite everyone in the ass, it’s doing the same thing to me, but it’s always best to do things right the first time.

do not use PVC, im speaking from experience, if you want to be pulling over on the side of the road all the time and tightening clamps then go ahead, if it were me i would definately wait and do it right.

ya PVC isnt a good idea. Doesnt really react well with heat. Dont waste more money to get it done quicker, just wait for your pipes, or stick with the side mount for now.

well I would wait for the pipes, but this is the only weekend I have available for the next month. I’ll be moving in a couple weeks, and I won’t have time to do the swap with all the stuff that needs to be done around the house (ie. painting, laying new flooring…)

I would wait, but if you really can’t then just use the PVC! I was boosting for about 2 months with that shiz. However you have to do it right. That yellow sealing stuff (plumbers glue) that looks/is like glue will hold your stock boost for sure. I ran 12psi for 4 days with that without problems. You should be aware that your IC pipes will probably end up costing a bill or more, and you cannot take the stuff back afterwards. It is a one shot deal, that yellow stuff does not break or leak if you let it dry properly.

The only thing you should stay away from is the plastic couplers at home depot. Those things dont hold boost well, even when re-enforced with tremendous amounts of duct tape! So you will have to find a better way eg.blue silicone couplers & t-bolt clamps, to attach your IC pipe to your turbo, IC and throttle body.

Other than that your good to go if you drop the dough and build it right.
l8ts…

I used pvc all of last year at 7psi and never had it blow off once. Glew it right and use real cuplings.

sounds good. what about mounting the fmic so that in and out ports are on top? Good idea or not? I can’t really see any disadvantages except the air wont cool as well…

Hey man.

You can flip the IC and use with no problems at all. As for cooling issues, you won’t notice anything and there really should’nt be anyway. The air still flows through the IC the same way despite it being upside down.

As far as mounting it, well don’t go making custom brackets. You can use metal strapping and that will work perfectly. If you think it’s a little weak, just use 2 piece’s of the strapping per side. It will hold no prob man.

Good luck.

thanks for all the info guys…

hopefully i have this thing running soon…

dont flip ure ic…the pipes will be wayyyy to hard to route properly…
bad idea…
