FMS vs. ECU tune

I started gathering some parts for my kat build.

I need some feedback as to whether a Fuel management system would be better or just an ecu tune. I am on a budget so i cant really afford an ems but let me know of some other setups that you guys have delt with.

Thanks

At LEAST get an ECU tune from someone respectable.

ye i figured someone like SG

nistune + local dyno tuning = Good deal i think. Don’t do silly things without tuning. I actually agree with fobwall holy crap…

ye i wasnt planning on doing anything without the tune anyways, i’ve heard too many stories. lol

enthalpy is pretty reputable too

You were just always biased to NOT agree with me because you hate me.

I just had a Nistune board fail last week on the dyno…it seems they are still a bit buggy.

why it fail, can you explain it or give us your opinion?

And vice versa to you mister :blah:

lol so anyways woah the nistune board failed. How and why? Physical failure, software failure, what??

I dont really know much about computer tuning for Nissan…it always seemed like a honda thing ?

anyone i see always using things like SAFC SAFC 2 SAFC NEO and stuff…not that i really understand how those work either… just seems more comon

i know nothing about this though dunno why i posted…i wanna learn more!

Things like safc TRICK the ecu as to how much fuel is to be used, etc… its good for very basic mods but not the safest or best…

Nistune is basically like hondata. It is modifying the stock Nissan ECU and then tuning through the consult port. You can save and burn ROMs, etc… You can have realtime data/tuning going, etc… It’s really cool:

Laugh at me all you want but I am really hoping with nistune… to get to a healthy 170-180whp on some 91/93 octane with all the boltons I have on my KA… if im lucky ill manage a good healthy 170 mark… the ka is pig rich… Guys without ecu tuning reach 150-160whp with just boltons… so we shall see  It should keep me plenty happy… I dont want to go sr lol… i want to go LS1 but no money now :frowning:

Nistune is handy… and there are SR guys and RB guys that are 400-500whp on nistune tuned OEM ECUs…

The guys who build nistune and most of the dealers are also very friendly and ready to help in anyway they can.

I was quite excited when I heard in one of the threads that local guys are dealers for nistune and can tune with nistune (shop license – although half the fun would be learning the curves yourself of using nistune – taking into account you would learn something about tuning cars first or have some experience already)

that’s a nice video man.

which shops are u talking about? cause ill give em a call and find out what they think. And for the most part i haven’t really heard anything bad about this system.

but me personally i wouldnt tune it myself, haha just don’t wanna mess it up.

i would get a tuned ecu and get it done with.

Pay the money - get a Jim Wolf and drive.

Talk to radek at rs tuning his user name is Original drift master here on SON

I have an EFI Specialist ECU. The person who’s behind this is named Kheim I believe. He is apparently very helpful and the turnaround times are nothing compared to others. He is also very reasonably priced. I’d get a modified ECU and then go to Original Drift Master to fine tune it and then reburn the ROM with the new tune. He’s posted here numerous times and seems legit.

Edit: Read post above me, lol. Enough said.

How much do piggy-backs (for ECUs that is) go for…?

for piggybacks e-manage is a better option as it can also control timing unlike the safc which only controls air/fuel. emanage still costs around $350+ at which price there is the megasquirt which is full standalone. it might be a little hassle wiring it in and soldering it (though u can buy an assembled ecu). it has an autotune feature so u can get it running without having to pay more for dynotune. so its the cheapest & best route imo. it can also read map which nistune can’t.

nistune is about 300$+software which is about 300$+tuning. You basically get a full standalone utilizing the nissan ecu… You can save money by not geting the nistune sofware and getting someone who is a nistune dealer to tune it (as they’ll probably have a tuner license…) Just a thought…

300 aint too bad but i could of swore i though it was more than that.

On the other hand, I was driving today and noticed that something in my tranny is messed. I though it was the driveshaft but the car doesn’t vibrate when its in neutral, only when its in gear. it does it at low speeds, at about 1700-2500rpm. Ill have to check this out before i slap on a turbo.
