ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
I can’t take credit for this one.
haha perfect
yup, so now I dunno WTF is going on…everything was working last night besides powering the coils because of that safety relay…so today I finish up the carbs, mount them, run throttle and clutch cables, turn the key to check things over, and BOOM…I’m popping the fuse again. MOTHERFUCKER. I had made up a jumper wire with an in-line fuse to skip the safety relay and get power to the coils…but didn’t even get a chance to try it because I’m popping the fuse again. I’m at a total loss here.
Without the pinout of the relay it’s hard to see what is controlling what. All I can think of is to unplug everything and slowly plug things back in until the fuse blows. Or perhaps take the fuses out of the fuse block and see what happens as you plug them back in. There seems to be so much extra bull shit in that harness.
what you’ve described is exactly what I did…which is how I narrowed it down to the safety relay. I’m at the point now where I’m at a total loss of what to do with this harness, because it’s obvious to me that there is a power wire grounded out somewhere and I can’t seem to track it down…
I REALLY don’t/didn’t want to, but I might have to go ahead and make a harness from scratch…simplified, using these diagrams:
Eww. Why is it that wiring always becomes your Kryptonite?
When you shortened and lengthed wires something may have gotten crossed.
You should have 12 Volts on the R/Y. Trace the rest of the wires and make sure they go to the right connectors. The problem is if one wire is crossed it could be spliced into something it is not supposed to be.
You have the schematic. I’d use the existing harness. Undo what you did.
all I did was cut three seperate wires…a yellow one, a red with white, and a red…I extended each one, seperately so that I could move the location of the componants they were attached to. This harness HAD to have been previously modified by the previous owner because the fuse box does not exist.
For me to try to track down what someone else did will take WAY longer than starting from scratch with those simplified schematics.
Good luck!
man, no fuse box for that rats nest? yea start over. you are lucky the main fuse is there/sized properly or your harness could be melted by now.
SO, after a couple hours with checko and pirite, we discovered that the voltage regulator has shit the bed. I happened to have a spare kicking around, so I swapped it out and we were in business…so then we got it running and found that my headlight was once again not illuminated when running…so we started checking into some things, and realized it wasn’t charging. So we did the dangling wrench near the magneto trick and no bueno…we pulled the cover and one of the contacts got busted at some point while the cover was off when wrenching. So now I’m on the hunt for that little guy. I did however get to rip it up the street once…so it’s SO CLOSE now.
Sunday ride?
doubt I’ll have the part replaced by then, plus it’s father’s day.
Shit, forgot about that. With fam out of town it’s just a phone call and another day for me usually.
I need the little pickup thingy for the generator here, minimum…might need the whole magneto/generator combo
some overall finished pics:
Damn, it’s always something isn’t it? Haha, it’s all part of the game. You’re super close man…
Did I see this out on the road just now???
