For anyone who drives through Ontario

http://handsfreeinfo.com/ontario-reins-in-handheld-devices

No using ANY hand held device in your car while driving. This includes GPS, MP3 players, Cell phones, video games, etc.

Went into effect the 26th of this month and punishable with up to a 500 CAN fine but no points if they just see you. If you endanger another driver, you can get slapped with up to 6 points and fines up to 1,000 CAN

No GPS even… wtf?

Use, as in have in your hand?

cant touch any buttons.

i cant wait for them to ban using your stereo or adjusting your air conditioning.

no talking to passengers allowed.

pull over before you retract your sunroof.

no turning more than 90 degrees at a time, etc. etc.

GPS are horrible! I almost get side swiped once a week by some asshole trying to type in something to their GPS when they are driving and merging onto the highway.

Sounds like you can still use your GPS though.

Which electronic devices will still be permitted under the new law?

The legislation applies only to hand-held wireless communications and

hand-held electronic entertainment devices. This means drivers may use a
wireless communication or entertainment device that can be operated in a
“hands-free” manner, for example:

<<
- a cell phone with an earpiece or headset using voice dialling, or
plugged into the vehicle's sound system
- a global positioning system (GPS) device that is properly secured to
the dashboard or another accessible place in the vehicle
- a portable media player that has been plugged into the vehicle's sound
   system.
>>

“Your GPS unit will still be able to direct you, as long as its properly secured to your dashboard.”

Good job reading…

You can still use your GPS like you said if its attached to the dashboard. You just need to follow the GPS directions and set the address when parked and leave it. If you are caught messing with it while driving like entering an address while flying down the QEW you can get stopped.

more laws to enforce common sense.

You can’t fix STUPID.

“a portable media player that has been plugged into the vehicle’s sound
system.”

I was gonna say, that is getting ridiculous!

Not a bad idea for married guys

Boom.

Boom

Right, but you can keep them off the road with harder drivers license tests…

It just gives them a excuse to pull you over now. “I thought I saw you on your cell phone”

They can do that in NY too. Hell, if you are drinking out of a can, they can pull you over and ask what it is saying they think it a beer.
