The guy in that thread said he believed it was caused by aftermarket fuel rails, I guess he always had to re-tighten them or something.
another guy said something about the fuel filter line popping off just after coming off the throttle from a WOT pull.
i could see a fuel line goin but the initial burn was to slow and smoky for gas im thinkin oil hittin hot exhaust caused trav,s
Little late to the game but fucking god damn dood. We’ve had our tussles in the past but I’d never wish this shit apon anyone. Just when you were starting to sort the bitch out too.
Right front eh??? Get that car back and check that fucking oil cooler under the motor. I despise those damn things, and a stupid place for suby to have put them from the get go(wrapped by hot headers). Not that it matters now, but if I had to guess I’d say either the filter/cooler came loose and misted the headers with hot oil or PS fluid hit the headers(both in that RF area). Fuel would have been a big poof of flame in mere seconds.
And for you people running out and getting fire extinguishers now…AFFF all the way(foam). Only thing that’s really going to suppress a fuel-born fire that’s been cooking and heating up metal for a couple minutes. Halon/Co2 only works well on these types of fires within the first ~30 seconds or so, AFFF will snuff and smother near anything. In race cars halon systems are not meant to put flames out completely, but rather just to buy you more time(15-20 seconds) to get your ass out of the car and to safety. Want to be safe, but a good AFFF extinguisher and keep a couple liter bottles of water in the trunk(cools hot metal to prevent re-flash)
the cusco strut tower brace fucking disintegrated… it got THAT hot… :sad… i gotta check the other parts and shit that are left when i get the car back down here
Oh man, I’m so sorry, Travis.
I wanna add my tow company “expertise” in this. Normally what we would do, for a customer whos vehicle was towed by another, is pay out the charges and then recollect from insurance. Greggs can not hold the vehicle once some sort of payment is made for their charges. Be careful though, some companies are real dirtbags and like to trump up the charges and add BS terms. A lot of NY municipalities have caps on tow charges, should look into that.
Also, there IS a recall on that year STi for oil leaking in the engine bay. I just forget on which component it is. Might be worthy of investigation.
sorry to hear about it travis. Any carnage pics yet?
requesting pics for the car for sale.
pics sell cars. period.
i <3 Aqueous film forming foam, its no joke ive dealt with it before from being in Naval Aviation.
:nod yup developed for that reason because water just pushes burning fuel around, spreading the flames out farther
