yea that is bullshit, I went out to zeli all the time, it wasnt great, but it was fun, and it was something close that was Ours to run our cars to the 1/8 mile limits, i remember when a vw blew up and caught on fire out there…
That’s a crappy thing to remember about the FLD’s !!!
Yeah. I have a feeling that unless it’s brought back to a more local venue (such as Zelie) I will not be spectating any longer. It was nice when I could just jump in the car drive the 20 minutes or so out there, and have something to do for the afternoon - Especially something automotive-based. Is just watching the event worth driving to Ohio for? Where all of the PA cars will require being inspected, but the Ohio cars won’t? I think that’s my problem here. Is the event really worth driving to Ohio for just to watch. I’ll have to think about that.
/rant
thats not something your going to forget
Or did you mean to say that’s something you’re not going to let me forget?
And it didn’t blow up, I just blew the plastic intake manifold off, lit fuel from a leaking line and almost burnt the car to the ground. Thanks to a spectator with a fire extinguisher the car lived to run another day.
yea, i actually missed how it happened, i just looked away for a second and everyone was gasping lol, its like hmm, Thats a wicked flame thrower,oh wait,no thats bad…lol
PID is a go! Looks like we might be doing some night time FLD’s too. One more 1/8th mile track to get on board and the FLD’s will be rockin’
awesome can’t wait to go
Really? I tried to drive up there to see what was left of the track…it’s gated off, you can’t get to it.
steel valley isnt a bad place, its about 20 min from my house, its in the middle of a fair ground and ther eis also place for riding atv’s and you can also camp on the grounds, the one thing that may be a problem is the pitt area, i never went to a flashlight event but depending on the ammount of cars some might have to park on the side of the return road but i have a lease on a lot in the pitts so i wont have a problem
that’s pretty cool
where exactly is the old PID though?
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=pittsburgh+international+dragway&sll=18.214127,-66.701313&sspn=0.799641,1.455688&ie=UTF8&ll=40.384997,-80.180969&spn=0.160306,0.363922&t=h&z=12&iwloc=A
did they reopen it? or pave it?
Yea, that looks like a freaking strip mine…?
I mean, I’m all for a lil excitement, but a dragstrip down a strip mine…IDK…
I don’t think the ‘A’ is in the right spot for the strip. Look a little lower and to the right where all the trailers are parked sideways, I bet thats it.
No, the “A” is correct…the place where all the trailers are parked was the NEW Campbell Airport…PID was the site of the OLD Campbell Airport…
That road is blocked off, you can’t even drive up there to see what’s there.
Well in that case it does look like a damn strip mine then lol!
i would think they would have it redone. i remember going up there awhile ago and they had a bunch of trailers there. that will be great to have that open again
You can drive up there. Also can walk around the gates at the end of that companies parking lot.
Still a hell hole. Gonna take many to clean up.
The FLD guys will be walking the track on Wednesday to evaluate what needs to be done. I was thinking that the track would be ready late this year or in 2010. I was told tonight that we will be racing (FLD’s only - No drag racing) this summer! Apparently the current owner is very excited to get the FLD’s there ASAP. It will also be alot easier than the airport events, no setup, no tear down and hopefully minimal cleanup. I was also told that the plans are for a fresh pavement topcoat! I’ll wait until I hear the results of Wednesdays inspection before I get too excited…
thunder in the burgh LOl
that was nice when they actually had it down near the stadium and not at prp!
fock it how about near wingap area near thornburgh bridge…somewhat getto area but it was known for a spot to race at
