? for VW and Audi guys

Well my sister has a Audi A4 with the 1.8T. Her and her husband were in town lastweek when the car got funny, so they took it to the dealers and find out that the engine was shot. The car has like 30,000 miles on it, and the dealership didnt even seem to know what happened. All i know is that they said something about there was no oil in the cam. Is this a common thing for these motors to just go like this?

i have never heard of that happening…

same.

vw has extended the warranty on there 1.8t engines due to sludge. I don’t know if this is what happened or much about the detailes. Sonny is the one you’ll want to talk to on this problem.

The 1.8T longies usually have their turbo oil return line clog… haven’t heard of the head passageways cloggin…

hmmm, well the car is still at the dealership. Luckly for them the car was still under warranty. But i just thought that was strange for a motor to just go like that. Maybe once the replace it ill find out more on what happened.

whole pcv system on these cars is junk… i can see it starving for oil for a couple miles and giving way… the sludge problem is when the dealers used shit oil and said it would last for 5k miles at a time. i too, never heard of the head getting clogged… b ut i’m not the least bit surprised.

which dealer is it at?

never heard of a 1.8 taking a shit that fast before. the dealer needs to check into that something isnt right there

better start reading up then…

Keep in mind there aren’t many mechanics at the dealers anymore, just guys that replace parts. If something moderately mechanical is wrong iwth the engine and it’s under warranty, they’d rather yank it and replace it and have VW pay the dealership for the effort.

Well, it turns out that the dealership told my sister that the car only need its oil changed at 10k, but when she did the 10k oil changes they used normal shit oil. so the motor got all sludged up and what not and that was the problem. They rebuilt it and everything and it runs again.

mobil 1 full synthetic baby!
its things like this that justify my lack of trust in the dealership. Good to hear everythign was covered and it wall worked out well for the sis.

  1. i have a VR6, not a 1.8, but VW engines use alot of oil…they run hotter than most engines, and i know a healthy VR uses about a quart a month…i had this problem once…the car got 2 quarts low and a rod bearing went…now i check it every time i fill the car up…

  2. find a good V-dub shop…all private import mechanics > the stealership
