Forced Performance/Subaru Drama

I’ve been into modding cars for awhile now. One thing that I have learned above everything else is if you want a 100% guarantee that your car won’t break, don’t mod it to begin with.

Leave it stock. There are no guarantees that something won’t go wrong.

FP did a respectable thing by offering to replace the Green. If I was in the same position, I’d be thrilled that they went that far!

I am an elite moderator (one step under site owner/administrator) on IWSTI.com (29,273 Members - 97,298 Threads - 1,551,616 Posts). We are currently ranked 996 on Big-Boards.com).

Is this necessary? Just because he’s a mod on a popular forum he is supposed to get special treatment?

The same stuff happens on the Audi forums. Recently, a guy left a piece of the oil plug in when installing the his K04s and then when the car blew smoke after start up he started a thread bashing Borg Warner. Finally someone convinced him to recheck his work and he found the piece of the plug still in the oil line.

Seriously, I would be ecstatic if I were him. He’s getting a replacement turbo and FP also tried to help him determine the cause of the Green’s failure.

We live in a ME generation that is only concerned with only themselves and instant gratification.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. Ever since my name turned green people are just lining up to suck me off.

IIRC there are 7 fundamental business strategies. Theirs seem to be a mixture of “Niche” and “Core Competency.” Telling customers who don’t fit their strategy to pound salt is just good business.

I think it was unreasonable for the guy to ask for tunning and towing costs and all that other crap besides the actual product. I think the turbo company made a reasonable offer to him. I dont think it was right that the turbo company bad mouths the subaru community though.

lol

you GO FP

:overhead gay finger snap:

God I’m reading through the thread now…the people on that forum are retarded. And they could even come up with a good name to mock FP…Failboat come on…

Original turbo owner is a dipshit.

Lets recap:

  1. He threatened FP from the get go with bad press if he didn’t get his way ( read hte “lawyer comment” )
  2. When he sent the turbos back and FP said the first was not a failure due to bad turbo but foreign material and the 2nd, although no evidence of mad product, will be replaced for free under the standard FP warranty, he throws a fit.
  3. He then requests $2600 in payment for both turbos AND a oil feed line. Remember the Green was used for well over a year before it blew and there was nothing wrong with the oil feed line.
  4. Robert at FP sticks to his guns and says “that’s our policy, take it or leave it” although he does try to go “above and beyond” and offer a check for the Green even though its against policy trying to make the customer happy.
  5. Owner decides best course of action is to post up on a board he has complete control over and manipulate the discussion in his favor.
  6. Thread focuses on this topic on EvoM, Suby guys rush to defense, thread gets locked.

Seems like the owner is a douchebag that tried to extort a resolution. Instead of working with FP, he decided on X and wasn’t happy until he got X. When he was told no, he through a hissy fit.

Imagine if he did that to some of the other vendors out there ( Shiv, Buschur, etc. )

i <3 FP

When you are spending as much money as we do in this billion dollar industry, sometimes people can come to expect more out of a company than just their product. Im not saying he is right but I dont know if FP is right either.

Easy to say when you look at it from one persons point of view. You dont know that FP was being honest when they said the damages to the turbos were actually caused by what they said. Obviously they are the experts and if they want to say or manipulate details to save themself money and labor hours at the expense of one customer, maybe thats a risk they are willing to take.

Again, I dont know who is in the wrong here. If I was the turbo owner and I was completely sure that the root of his problems were shitty manufactured turbos, then what he is asking is completley justifiable. However, there is no true way to ever tell.

On the other hand though, the guy could just be a crying dipshit who is pinning his problems on someone else and trying to get a free buck out of the case but one thing is certian… The turbo owner is very confident he is in the right here.

Of course he is, all scam artists are confident in whatever they are trying to screw people for.

Agreed, but when I look at the two sides of the arguments and the steps that have been taken by both parties, I tend to side with FP on this one. And trust me, I have been in long standing heated discussions with Vendors about what they should warranty and what they shouldn’t. If I had been treated like FP treated this guy, maybe I wouldn’t have been 100% happy but I could see their point and accept the free turbo rebuild, not then demand full monetary compensation for 2 turbos.

Some points to think about:

  1. He mentions getting lawyers involved from the get go.
  2. The FP20g was over a year old when it failed, regardless of reason. ( Purchased july 16th 2006 and failed September 10th 2007 ).
  3. He was getting his Green replaced already free including shipping. He refused accepting his 20G AND his new Green because he wanted more.

the company offered warranty replacement, and even refund, iirc.

the customer wanted beyond that.

that’s reasonable? even in this billion dollar industry?

wouldnt you be if you were an elite moderator (one step under site owner/administrator) on IWSTI.com (29,273 Members - 97,298 Threads - 1,551,616 Posts). currently ranked 996 on Big-Boards.com)?

:mamoru:

Although I personally dont like him, Majin is a highly respected person on iwsti, and im sure a lot of that comes from personal interaction from his local area.

To say he is a scam artist is a little aggressive.

Listen, a person who just shells out money for a new FP green + labor without even questioning the demise of his last one is probably in a financially stable part of his life. I doubt this guy is just “scamming” FP. Obviously if you buy two like products from a company and they both share a short lifespan with apparent “different” reasons for distruction, that will throw up a red flag in your head.

Oh and I LOL’d at that too

lol

i dont pretend to know this guy, i was just referencing the statement you made, into people that want something will work damn hard to get it whether they deserve it or not.

If the car ran for a year or whatever, its not anyone’s fault cept the owner’s

i literally LOL’d when i read “elite moderator”

you’ve gotta be fucking kidding me. forum kids.

Thats not true at all. What turbo lasts one year first off, and second of all… the other one only lasted weeks.

Again im not saying the turbo owner is in the clear here. Im just saying all of these people who are justl ike “the guys a dick, the guys a dick” are not putting themselves in his shoes.

Unless there is a detail that he is leaving out, (which there may be) he just lost $2500 in turbos and another $1000 probably in labor in one year all at the hands of Forced Performance.
