I think you may have missed my sarcasm.
Sry… I though we were having a Tinfoil moment
this thread is gay, every car company is hurting- audi, subaru and honda dont just pull out of wrc and f1 races for nothing :bloated:
It’s not so much that they didn’t anticipate the gas crunch. I’m sure they employ actuaries for 6 figures to estimate oil prices. What they didn’t anticipate is that people would start to act irrationally in belief of oil going to the moon, and start taking 20,000 dollar hits on switching vehicles to save maybe 1000 dollars a year. There’s an ass for every seat. Every SUV over the past decade that they “overproduced” found a buyer, at a substantial profit margin. It’s more that people buy less luxury vehicles during economic downturns and more cheap, dependable, boring basic transportation. They don’t splurge for a sports car or SUV or anything fancy, they buy a shitty slow 4 cylinder and save money. Imports kill it at cheap, dependable, boring basic transportation, and historically it’s been the domestics’ weak point.
boo USA sucks! yay Hitler and japan!
Ok, there is Nyspeed’s (omitting all F bod owners) view of the automotive world.

Idk how many times we have to cover this in threads like these, but this IS NOT a discussion of build quality anymore… This is purely about BUSINESS MANAGEMENT.
GM fucked up on the build aspect of their cars a decade ago but its pretty clear that they have straightened their shit out a little bit since then. Their business practices however, are still lagging.
It’s interesting that the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo axis makes 90+% of import cars here  lone exceptions being Korea and your rare British beast here and there.
im aware… my jab was at the level of import humping that exists on here.
The import humping and the Big 3 bashing is sickening. If you’re so unhappy with American vehicles move to Europe where you can drive all the VW’s you want. Way to support the economy, the same economy that helps keep your country what it is today!!! If I’m to buy a non-American vehicle, its because I like the over-all design of the car better; not becuase I feel it has better quality. All of the American automakers have been stepping up their over-all designs, that including looks and quality, therefore making their cars more apealing to everyone these days.
And I get that but there is a reason for import humping…
If the shitty build and innovation quality that the big three threw at us for the last 20 years wasn’t enough, they had to go and submit to shitty business practices.
People hump imports because for the last twenty years, they were clearly better cars. Now for the first time since the 80’s, when the big 3’s production quality has risen to somewhat match (even thats debateabale) foreign auto makers, they cant even keep themselves in business. So we dint buy their cars, and were still paying for them via taxes and the bailout.
Dont get me wrong, im all for the Bailout and wanting to see these companies rise to the top again, but they better not make the same mistakes twice.
This makes you an idiot.
I’m not going to sacrifice quality in a $20k+ investment because domestic automakers are in a bind. WTF.
It’s not an overall build quality thing, it was a selective gap, mainly in econo-cars and family sedans. If you wanted a truck, you still had better quality going domestic. Your Civic, may have been better than a Cavalier and accord may have been better than a Taurus, but the F150/Silverado either ran circles around the opposition or won unopposed, and the C5 ran circles around everything thrown at for <100k.
Anyone arguing about the domestic’s market plan should have a peek at what Toyota did in the US market the past two years: built a brand-new pickup truck plant in Texas, which is getting idled, and is now postponing completion of their US Prius plant.
So obviously, the geniuses at TM were so much better at planning for the difficulties in the USDM than those at GM.
^What is your argument?
My guess is it’s in reponse to those people who earlier in the thread stated something to the effect that GM building a bunch of fuel inefficient vehicles like trucks and SUV’s led to their demise. Now, Toyota tried competing by building big trucks and their plants are now idle…therefore putting them on the same playing field as GM.
What I find some irony in is that the GM fleet offered the most vehicles with 30+mpg…yet everyone is so quick to say that since they make big trucks that their lineup is full of gas guzzlers. Like I said earlier, lots of stereotypes out there slammin the domestics…
Lol and whose bottom line is less shitty right now?
Those Tundra plants were built right before the oil crunch and the Prius is proving to be too expensive for the value at this point in time… Again, you cant expect the company to have psychic abilities. Every big business makes mistakes that are under the microscope but usually they have time to recognize and fix problems before they turn into massive headaches.
The big 3 DID NOT fix their problems in a timely manner and that is whats costing them now.
Again, there is no doubt every Motor Corporation is going to feel this impact in some way, but the Big 3 are feeling it the worse because of two decades of mistakes that were not corrected.
This is pointless, there are at least 100 reasons for the current situation of every car maker. Trying to name one or two things in a post is useless.
So if mexicans like GM cars you would recommend they all move to the US?
:bigclap:
