WTF… So I got an AIM worm and was thinking about a fresh install anyways so I reformatted my computer. Nothing was really working improperly before I reformatted, other than the worm IM’d itself to 30 people before I looked up and saw what happened.
Now no matter what driver I try, my onboard ethernet just sit’s in “Other Devices” in device manager. The mobo is an ABIT NF7-S2 with an nForce2 chipset. This isn’t the first nForce2 board I’ve had, and the nVidia unified driver has always covered all the onboard devices.
I’m now running off of a 5 year old NIC that has been sitting in a box for 4 of those years.
I thought I had a hardware conflict so I yanked all the other PCI devices, but no change. I updated the bios/cleared the CMOS and no change. I’ve tried every ethernet driver on ABIT’s website for the board and still no change. WTF?
Despite the fact that I’ve moved since the last time I reformatted, I actually managed to find the disk that came with the mobo. Turns out it was just the wrong driver. Some (seemingly) obscure homersexual driver that’s not even on ABIT’s website for the mobo. Windows update didn’t find it either. :banghead:
