Anyone else get caught riding in the rain? I did coming back from 1st-Try…luckily had full face on and leather jacket. That was a vicious storm!
I could see it our in the distance from Fox Chappel and it looked nasty. We didn’t get a drop in my area but the comcast internet was down all night.
Nope but I got caught in one hell of a storm on route 40 just past uniontown today. Was drenched to the bone and lost in the some state game lands until I got to Jumonsville. Then all the sunned the skys cleared and it was sunny the rest of the way to the point I dried out except for the seat of my pants. Carie was so irritated becuse that storm came out of no where. I was laughing like a kid jumping through puddles and had a few people laughing when we finally came to a gas station and it stopped raining.
Bike handled well in the rain especially with the new Metzler 880 Marathons I just had put on Yesterday.
The RT 40/Ohiopyle area can get some freak storms, they literally pop up out of nowhere…glad to hear the new tires performed better than expected. I run Dunlop D402 front in M90/21 (skinny as hell!) and D401 rear 130/90/16 and they were not squirming at all in the rain on my HD XL1200C.
I’ll look into the Metzler’s for my fiance’s bike. She’s running the Battlax front and rear right now on a 'zuk GS500, don’t know how good they are in the wet stuff…since she’s a n00b/squid on bikes, I want the best all around tire on her bike, naturally. The Battlax seems to be an ultra-sport tire…so I’m nervous about that one in the wet stuff.
Yeah I like them so far, the bike seems like it handles a lot better and takes no effort to lean. Now I’m not sure if this is because of the old tires just being worn and that is what I remember, or if there is a true difference. Only time will tell. The biggest reason I went with the Metzeler is because I wanted a radial rear to try and help with the poor mileage compare to the traditional Bias-ply. Only other option was Dunlop E3s. Adam reccomened that I go with the metzeler over the dunlop. There are guys on my Kawi fourm reporting 12k plus on their radials due to the tire not trapping heat as much as the Bias-plys do causing them to wear faster. The Stock bridgestones I only got 6700 miles on them and that just isn’t acceptable to me since I ride so much.
thx man, that sounds like a crazy good tire.
No problem, only thing you have to check is to make sure they even make a radial for that bike. Radials are starting to come out due to these big bikes needing them (1000cc+).
Now some times they have a matching front and some times they do not. I was told by multiple places including reading a responce from Metzeler directly that it is ok to run a Radial in the back and a Bias-ply in the front even though they warn to “check with your manufacture first”. That is what I’m doing since they don’t make my front in a radial.
Now you can’t do the oppoiste and run a radial in the front and Bias-ply in the rear.
Regardless if it’s a radial or not, the Metzelers seem to be good especially the 880s and a ton of guys I have talked to love them. You may benifit from a radial, but your Fiance having a 500 might not have the option depending on her tire size.
Yeah, I just looked and it seems the 880 Marathon doesn’t come in that size…however, I found this little gem:

Seems there’s someone with the same bike and likes the Metz radials. I’ll dig around and look for more info. Thanks for the lead, again!
No problem, hope it all works out.
PM each other already
