FS: 95 Range Rover 4.0 SE - $4,000!!!!

Bump! It’s going on Craigslist tonight!

This thread just keeps getting better and better. I hate myself for not having a way to get the money together for this.

I dont feel like doing much research but I am curious. What are some of the weak points of these? ie: expected maintenance wear items common with this model. How much can it tow reliably? Could I say take a car to the track using it? I plan to drive my M5 as my winter car but wouldnt mind something like this to tow a whatever race car I grab and to bomb around in if its really bad outside. Also are parts very expensive/hard to find? thanks for the info.

Well, it’s almost 15 years old so anything can be a weak point really. The biggest maint issue is the brakes, which I’ve already done. Other than that I don’t know what else could potentially go.

As for towing, it only has 220 ft/lbs of torque so I don’t know what it’s max would be. I’ve only towed a medium sized utility trailer with it.

Parts are easy to find, depending on what they are. The motor is actually a pre-GM Buick design and was very common.

If you’re interested, let me know. I’m actually sitting on the GW Bridge into NYC right now on my way to a Rover dealership. I might trade it in just to get rid of it.

Max Towing for both the 4.0 and 4.6 are 7700 lbs

They tow each other:

Air Suspension is weak point for sure, bags pop, sag, etc. Switch to coils and you’re all set

Well I still have it and didn’t trade it it, so it’s still for sale!

Who did the tranny for these? Model#?

No clue, but the bell housing is the biggest thing I’ve ever seen, lol.

There is some good technical info at Range Rovers.net - Range Rovers Forum

And according to that, it has 236ft/lbs of torque so I guess I was a few lbs off.

so did you get a newer one?

Not yet. I looked at 2 yesterday. Apparently, there are some some “unsavory type people” buying these up from Nicaragua and Panama… The one I really was interested in had been sold before I got there over the phone and was going to be shipped on a boat that week, lol. The other was more money than I wanted to spend and they wouldn’t budge on the price even though they wanted more than it booked for.

But if anyone is ever in the market for one of these trucks, you HAVE to drive the obstacle course with the salesman. If I wasn’t sold on buying one already, that totally solidified it for me. Apparently, all Rovers (even the one I’m selling) can take a 30+ degree grade sideways. Just when you think the truck is going to roll over, it just stays planted and goes further. Incredible.

I will check back on this in 2 weeks, if it is still avail I will take it off your hands

might wanna act quicker than that. i think as of this Thursday he has it sold to a guy in Irac

where?

i cant believe this isnt sold yet. you cant even give this thing away at 4k.

Iv seen this many times in person it is very clean…and I cant believe this is still here.

Pending sale right now. I’ll know by Wednesday.

lol, nice one Tom.

It’ll be sold to the iraci
