I need to make a return style set up work for a returnless fuel rail. I am swapping a 3liter into my Contour which is a return style rail and the Taruas motor is a returnless rail. Any suggestions on making the switch?
can you swap intakes/fuel rails? with some model year changes on some motor swaps i have had to change out intakes to get the correct fuel setup
your using a 3.0 DOHC right? the older taurus/sables use a return style fuel system. I’m talking like 96-99
in the 2000 model year they went to a fpdm which pulse width modulates the fuel pump varying fuel pressure. my guess is to make an old style fuel rail work you’d have to use the old intake/throttle body.
the reality is i know nothing of contour 3.0 swaps. i’d find a contour forum to know for sure
The intake ports on the 04 3L are oval port and the older ones are round with secondaries on the 2.5. I am wondering if I can adapt the fuel line at the tank like on the Taurus?
electrical returnless needs a pulse width modulated, pcm controlled fuel pump to vary volume to the rail. since there is no return the exact amount of fuel must always be delivered to the rail. this requires precise control of the pump output. in a return style system the pump runs all the time and at one speed, this is not the case with returnless
that’s what i’d do
Yeah I know for sure the Contour forums are loaded with guys doing the 3L swap.
