anyone on here use the boost-a-pump?

im thinking about upgrading my fuel system for the next phase of my build next winter. i was looking at walbro pumps, but they have to be a custom job and the focus is a returnless fuel system, and i want to keep it that way. some people on the focus boards have talked about it, i know of one guy that uses it, but others dont want to because if a fuse goes for its power source your motor is toast. just wondering if anyone local uses one successfully

whats your fuel rail made out of ?

theres to type of return systems too, one has seperate feed and return ports on the rail, the other has the reg on the supply hose so the excess doesnt have to flow thru the rail

and running a return hose usualy isnt that hard, as long as the stock fuel pump cartride has a spot you can drill out for a return port

I have my KB boost-a-pump on my car now and it works perfectly. It’s a fairly easy install too. When i went to the dyno a while back, I had logged the fuel pressure duty cycle and fuel pressure and all was well with the boost-a-pump on a 20% setting.

I used to use one on the Camaro. Nice piece.

After a quick read… I don’t see how spending $299 on that would better than buying a walbro, or splurging for an aeromotive?

innovative sells their 255lph pumps for like $90 i think why go any other route?

Can’t you just reaplce the actual pump. Boost-a-pump always seemed like a half assed solution.

well, the problem is for me to upgrade to a walbro type unit is that i have to go to a return fuel system, which i dont want to do for various reasons. ill look into other options, this is just one i was curious about

yeah but a walbro will cost you $90, and fuel line return will be like $20, or $70 if you go braided… which is still half the cost, and not a hack-job.

They dont make one for the focus returnless system? My solara uses a returnless system but a company called Underdog Racing Development sells the walbro 190s for the returnless system. Email them and ask about it.

^ thanks for the tip, ill look into that.

got some info from the focus boards:

Many have reliably seen over 300 wheel horsepower using the kenne bell boost a pump with the recall replaced fuel pump. It will force the pump to mantain healthy pressure even at quick throttle blips, where the stock pump tends to drop pressure a tad bit.

the advantage of a returnless fuel system is that you arent sending hot fuel back to the tank, that causes vapor lock.

The stock fuel pump will work to about 330whp but the pressure is starting to drop off in the higher rpm’s… I’m making 340whp with the KenneBell Boost a Pump.

341whp… stock pump with the Kenne Bell Boost a pump… but its at the limit

i dunno about a stock focus fuel pump being able to go to 330 WHP

thast more than double the output of a stock motor…
