Oil Execs to Be Asked to Justify Profits

Top executives of three major oil companies will be asked by senators next week why some of their industry’s estimated $96 billion in record profits this year shouldn’t be used to help people having trouble paying their energy bills.

Exxon Mobil, the world’s largest publicly traded oil company, announced earnings for the third quarter of $9.9 billion, on revenue of $100 billion. Royal Dutch Shell said it had profits of $9 billion, while ConocoPhillips earned $3.8 billion, nearly double profits a year earlier.

its fucking insane that we arent dumping ASSLOADS of money into biodiesel technology right now. Cleaner/cheaper than regular diesel, and its a renewable resource. fuck hydrogen and hybrids and all that stupid shit.

I dont think hybrids are stupid, for now its a very feasible technology, but unless a new way to refine hydrogen comes up, fuel cells will never become widely used in automotive aplications. IMO

oil companies employ a lot of people. If we pushed biodiesel and eventually got rid of regular oil, it would be like the steel colapse x 10,000. Economy would really take a hit.

umm dude why cant we employ the same amount of people to create biodiesel? if it is a renewable resource we should be able to employ more people in the long run

the county just pushed through an emergency somethingorother to allow the guy that owns a small, local oil distribution company to build a diodiesel facility in Ocean City (err, actually about 5 miles out of OC on Rt. 50 for those that know the town). He’s gonna buy previously thrown away soybean shells or some shit like that from the chicken companies. For those that dont know, the Eastern shore of MD is like the chicken raising capital of the fucking planet or some shit like that. Both Perdue and Tyson are headquartered here.

So lets see:
