remember (for the smart asses)this forum is on topic. Where do you think the market is going with these car? Year one is barely selling anything of value yet to restoring a g-body. Will it go the way of 70’s a- body’s? Body parts and interiors to start being reroduced? They are not a bad platform cause you can almost put any engine in. Conversions for shitty brakes are comming along and you can now get stout ford 9 inch rears. I think one thing hurting them off the bat thou is none of them, except the 86-87 turbo regals, came with any decent engine. No one will really do a numbers matching resto like they would with a chevelle or Gto, etc,
I think you’re pretty much right on. There’s very few nice powertrain combos to want to restore. Pretty much the Turbo Regals will drive the market, with Monte SSs somewhere far behind. The lowrider scene will keep lovin’ 'em but they don’t drive demand for any reproduction stuff since they go all custom anyway. Cars like the first-year Aero-Coupes and your Hurts will be the only things worth keeping all stock and restoring (short of GNXs and rare option standard Turbo Regals). And even then they’re painfully slow (excluding the Turbo Regals again).
Personally I want to do a Monte SS someday (probably Gen III/IV - T56). My first memories of riding in a “fast” car were in my uncle’s '84 SS. I was born in Jan. ‘82 so remember I was about 2 at the time! Maybe it was a year or two after he got it and I was like 3-4 but I was really young. I remember the T-tops being off and the V8 sound (he owned a branch of an Ambulance company, so he was used to driving fast ). It must have stuck w/ me cuz all these years later I own a V8, rear-drive, T-top Chevy. Granted my car now is much faster, but when I was that young anything was fast compared to my parents’ '84 Cavalier.

ya the fact that so many monte SS were produced(over 150,000) makes the aftermarket a lot bigger. Malibu’s help keep the performance parts there because so many use them as drag cars. I think people will want to restore the hursts along with the 442’s. They are grossly underpowered but they look really sharp. i think thou those specialty parts for the olds cars, it’ll be luck to get like limited runs of repro parts. Sorta like with my GS, a company made about 300 70 GS grills for the GSCA. NOS grills are going upwards of 1,500. I had a hell of a time gettin a wing tip for my hurst but i finally found a guy who repros the tips. I guess lining in the “crate engine” era leaves the g-body a viable alternative to the rising prices of the late 60’s and early 70’s cars.
the mid 70’s a-bodies are the really nice cars to build to i think, full frames, big rear ends, big brakes, Not the same appeal in style as the g-bodys but a better platform than both the early 70’s a-body and the 80’s g-body. I would love to have a nice 77 cutlass with a F.I. 455 and a 4 speed, swivel buckets and 17 inch wheels.
if you own a buick turbo you would feel like there is no aftermarket future since 1997 when the block, and many black only parts were no longer produced
You might not be able to get stock blocks, but you do still have options: http://www.taperformance.com/v6_block_flyer.htm

its not original.
and its 3500 not including the crank
To be honest, I’m not impressed with the TA stuff yet…I’d sooner go Stage 2.
But in reply to Cutty’s original post, I think the g’s will slip through the cracks in the aftermarket. Customer base/market demand is too small. We’ll just have to be creative with interchange parts.
In my opinion the nine inch is overated for a G, 8.5 10 bolts hold up into the nines with a girdle and axles.
We are lucky to have some Buick vendors inventorying lots of used parts, but in the 2 years I’ve been playing with Buicks, I’ve watched rust free doors go from $200 a pair to $450 plus.
Well part of the problem with buicks is there are people that are hoarding parts, they bought up all the inventory. Kanut your guy richard might be awesome but hoarding shit like that is DICK!!! I could see not selling stuff to people making clones but helping out the other people is what its all about. A lot of GN owners are stuck up cunts in that regard. Hurst Olds people are super friendly.
The problem with g-bodies is they made 88 billion of them. As stated, except for the rarest of the rare, they will not go up in value, well not much anyway. I would like to have a g-body just because parts are cheap and it’s almost endless what you can do with them(engine/tranny/rear), but for the average g-body, I don’t see them being collector items, ever.
thats what i meant, its not like a 70 malibu is worth much today compared to a chevelle. that like a monte sc compared to a monte SS.
I didn’t think the g-body was doing too bad as far as their value but could definitely use more aftermarket replacement parts though. i remember looking for doors for my el camino and people i swear were on crack because they thought they had gold for how much they wanted for them. The key is to go south, I picked up clean parts in texas for less then half the price i paid around here and wasn’t beat up. There will always be a diehard g-body market for some people, but they didn’t have the glamour like the original muscle cars though.
hey playa dont talk shizzle on my block its gonna drag the back bumper
the buick name includes hoarding but i am hopefull one day there will be a company that sells all the goodies 4 our cars shawn said doors “NEW” are coming thats a start
dont most g-bodys???(causeofrust)
Don’t start.
:blue:
They probably will all go up in value. Just so I can look back when I’m older and say “I wish I didn’t chop up so many of those for circle track cars.” :dunno:
g-body’s
make sure you do it to oldsmobiles so mine keeps going up in value. But no really chop up the GP’s and MC’s they are junk anyway.
