FYI: chumpcar ice racing on 2/1 and 2/2 on Honeoye Lake

I’m volunteering on saturday. They have lots of classes so it’s not just chumpcar. Looks to be a great time. It’s only $50 a day to race!!!

This in from the NY Region Chumpcar International Ice Racing Series:

It looks like everything is a go for Ice Racing this weekend 2/1 and 2/2 on Honeoye Lake.

It will be warming up a little this weekend so that should make for a fun time on the ice. We would like to get started as early as possible, but we know that some of you (including me) have a long ride to get there.

Here is the schedule for both days.

8:00 to 10:00 Registration
9:00 to 10:00 Tech
9:30 to 10:30 Practice sessions
10:35 to 10 40 Driver’s meeting
10:45 or as soon as we can, the Racing Begins
We will race as long as we can

This will be the super bowl of ice racing and if we move things along on Sunday you might be able to get home in time to watch the game. On the other hand if things go as planned, you will get so much seat time this weekend that you won’t be able to stay awake for that football game.

This is a Great deal. Only $50 per driver, per car, per day. And each car can have 2 different drivers because we have the Sidekick class where a second driver gets to race with the other second drivers. Or you can be your own sidekick and double enter your car. Either way I suggest you show up with a full tank and expect to leave with a near empty one each day.

Pits and paddock will be on the ice unless you have a real heavy truck, in which case you can park in the parking lot and bring your car out to the on ice paddock. Any fueling should be done on land. Make sure you bring out to the ice your spill pillows and a shovel to keep your area nice and clean.

The access will be at Trident Marine on East Lake Road Google Maps

The bar/restaurant will open early so that we have a place to do registration indoors.

This is a Chumpcar International Ice Racing Series event. All Chumpcar endurance racers are welcome as are members of any Ice Racing club including CNYIRA, FLIR and AMEC.

See you on the ice,

Can I bring my wheeler?

This is my first time going to an ice race so I have no idea. I would call/email and ask that Casey guy listed above. You won’t be able to race with it if that’s what you’re asking.

I just want to play

I’ve been eying the Black Lake schedule as it’s only 15 minutes from my mom’s, but I’m a daydreamer.

I can’t make it, but definitely take pics!

So I had a great time and now know a lot more about this sport and how it all goes.

First I must say, I was wrong. While we had a nice large 1.5 mile race track, the rest of the lake was filled with people doing all kinds of things. I witnessed: Snowmobiles, motorcycles, 4 wheelers, cross country skiers, ice skaters, fishermen, other people hooning around in cars unrelated, and even a Cessna landed hung out and then took off.

sessions were split into two groups: 6 point cage and purpose made ice race tires AND everybody else. There are classes within the groups but nothing was done very formally.

It turns out that while racing boats and other things on the finger lakes takes a permit, there is no rule against auto racing. So this group got insurance, cleared with a boat place that had a bar and restaurant for people to use the launch, and then simply went out and plowed a track with no permits or anything.

When we ended our day around 3pm, everybody else (and those who wanted to stay) basically took over the race track and the party went on unregulated LOL.

They are going back out on sunday with the same schedule, $50 and you’re racing.

and now some videos:

I want to see video of the “everybody else” class. I assume those are the guys with proper tires!

the first video is the caged and proper tire class, the one with the WRX is the everything else class.

After driving a bunch of laps I can say that this is a sport where it looks so much slower than it really is… shit gets ugly fast on ice at 50mph. (they target top speeds of 75)

Damnit!!! I fucking missed it!

No, you didn’t:
