G-20 Summit

Who works downtown and whos planning to take off while its going on ? Just curious. I work on 5th ave downtown and I think were def not coming to work towards the end of that week. Anyone else? Thoughts?

I work at 3 Gateway but due to my job I am only in the office every once in a while. I am hoping that I am scheduled to be onsite at a client and not downtown. If I’m not scheduled somewhere, I am going to try and work from home.

My wife works on Wood Street and she said she heard rumors that her company was going to make everyone take those days off and use their vacation days. I told her that they are probably not allowed to do that, but I guess we will have to wait and see. Also, she takes the trolley and I have heard rumblings that they may shut down the trolley line to try and avoid and terrorist attacks (i.e. London).

A lot of companies are allowing employees to work from home that day. I would suggest you request the same.

The wifey works downtown, and from what she has overheard the city has recommended any non-essential employees to stay home. Her company has begun making preparations to decide who stays home, and who needs to be at the office. Those who are being asked to stay home will receive vacation days, but will not be “charged” for them. She’s basically going to have a few free days off.

I have been running around to all of my clients downtown and making sure they have remote access for that week, only a couple of places said they are going to allow their employees to come in. Most of them are remote during the summit.

My work is right on (next) the runway where they will flying in. Rumor has it we will ahve the day off here…no official word yet.

I work on 4th Ave, not sure but as far as i know i have to be here. Still don’t know wtf this thing is all about though…

my fire company chief has a big meeting with alot of the other local chiefs and pghs guys the other day discussing this crap. we are going to have a staffed station the week leading up to and including this because of all the fires that have happened in the past. we dont expect anything here to happen but just incase something happens in town and they send all of the pgh guys from overbrook area to cover that shit we can cover the s.hills for pgh. i hope nothing happens but who the hell knows. i would imagine alot of the construction downtown will stop thatweekso hopefully i dont have to go down there at all for this crap.

My dad works on all the county vehicles, cop cars, etc etc etc. and his company said thier going to be open 24/7 that week to keep ALL enforcement vehicles on the road, guys will have to do 12 hour shifts and work overnight too.

btw Mac, how do you like all the new Stihl rescue saws? those things are serious

anyone know the implications of trying to fly out of the airport that thursday? Me, my wife and some friends are supposed to fly that morning to Maine. We plan on being at the airport somewhat early, but maybe we should plan on being there stupid early?

Good question, I’m flying out to Atlanta either Wed or Thurs… I was thinking it would be harder getting in that it would be getting out…

I’m soo glad I don’t have to go downtown daily anymore. I’m going to go hide in the woods far away from civilization those days.

I am not sure, I work for an engineering company that is built on the old airport. I know I was talking to our building mgr and I was told secret service will be on our roof top…so the word is we may have off work that day. As for flying out I could not see them shutting down the airport…I would expect hightened security. I would just make sure you get there pretty early if you can.

Why does it seem like the “cons” of having the G20 in Pittsburgh far outweigh the “pros”? I wonder if the overall economic impact is positive for the city.

Bunch of pussies… Im volunteering for that shit, cant wait!

no they are parking all their planes on my ramp (AF Reserve) and then leaving with escorts from our base… we are moving our c130’s over to youngstown afb… you should be fine flying out… maybe some delays but nothing to big…

good info! Thanks man!

waste of shutting down highways.

I work at Highmark where the rumors have been flying. I’ve already been told that I’m required to work from home those days. I believe for those required to be in the office they are making arrangements elsewhere around town.

I agree with whoever said the cons far outway the pros.

im sure ravenstahl will be saying how great this is for the city (him) but it will fuck up everyones life that works here. pirates have a game that night… i hope they fuckin cancel it.
