G8 pricing..

Comparing 1966 to now is pointless. Modern vehicles have crash, noise and luxury standards that make cars from that era look like glorified tin cans. And an E46 is 3 series sized. The G8 is between a 5 and a 7 series.

Current 5 series - 3700 base
Current A6 - 3860 base
300C - 3721 - 4046 depending on model

I’m sure I could keep going but I do have some work to get done this morning.

I won’t argue that cars are getting heavy, but saying that this pontiac is unacceptible while not bring up the others doesn’t make much sense. People expect their cars to have power everything, be as quiet as a bank vault, and survive a 50mph side impact so the weight gain shouldn’t be a surprise.

So far from what I’ve seen I’m keeping my GTO though. The baby seat isn’t the most convenient thing with 2 doors, but soon the kid will be big enough for a forward facing seat and that will make it much easier. Maybe if they come out with a 450+hp GXP model I’ll think about trading in.

i would TOTALLY drive this car daily with that front end on it.

^^ I think the pink was just from the lighting…

This is one car I’m seriously considering to be my first new bought car ever. Plus you could easily have sex with two girls in that back seat. If they build it like they did the gto, the fronts will swap out with ease. I may try to find one with front end damage at auction, once everyone starts to crash them, throw on the holden front and paint it something nice.

Car and Driver had a decent report on it in this month’s issue. They said it’s a world car platform built to meet everyone’s standards without modification (unlike the GTO which lost 1/2 of it’s trunk due to our gas tank regs) and the one we’re getting is most like the model currently for sale in the middle east.

Hrm, probably a good 6-12 months after launch for a GXP I would imagine. Damn money makers.

looks like the evo X prototypes…

i’m not a huge fan but it’s all right, especially for a GM

ps. newman you’re such a ricer with your monster mouth looking front and rear bumpers

your 5 series base is off, actual weight of the 535xi was 3671 (the heaviest), base is closer to 3400 for a 528i, hence I stated the E60…

for a car that size 4000lbs is unacceptable, if it was closer to 7 series in size it would be understandable.

ps a E46 is a 3 series…

and I will fully say that the 300 is a fucking tank of a shitty car

Weight needs to drop like 300lbs, which adds 3/10ths to time and what feels like another 30 hp… but I am sure you understand the value of losing weight vs bumping power

But at the same time, the heaviest E60 still weighs over 300lbs less then the “GT” G8, and saying well that is expected is ridiculous.

EVO X?

Should be a helluva fun car when it hits.

I didn’t read that whole thread through so forgive me if I am re stating a point made earlier. There are pics on the G8 boards that show what the car is going to look like. The HUGE wheels are not on the car and the front end is a bit more mild, not totally different, I personally like it. Here is a link to the V6 version

Looks like the Holden sans the big rims and a bit more mild of a front end.

There are also pics of a wagon version, here

but the sedan would have to sell like crazy for them to consider bringing over the wagon. I can’t wait to see the GT version in mid 08. Yeah, I’ve been watching this thing since day 1

My 5 series weight specs came directly from BMW USA for a 535.

The G8 is longer than a Crown Vic, so it is between a 5 and 7 series.

In a DD/Touring car I’d much rather make up for it with power. You are missing the point of the car if you don’t. Its not meant to be a Miata.
