ca18det -t28 ball bearing 8psi regularily 14psi at the track
k so i have an oil leak on the exh side of the turbo, leaking oil so i gotta pull it off and have it sent out casue ive been warned not to do it myself…
so question number one … do they naturally go after time? i bought it used with no known history its pulled great for a all last season, and the last threee months… I do take it to the drag strip at least 5 times with about 20 passes in the last season and a half… push the car regularily etc etc. is 14 psi bad for it too ? usually only at the track or the odd time.
number 2
550 from industry diesel - oakville
cherry - no answer today…
any suggestion … as to option , shops etc
If its a factory T28 then Id say yes its normal for the seals to eventually go on a turbo that has been running for 10+ years. If its something like a GT28RS or a newer turbo then you might have an issue but its doubtful.
Running it a 14psi doesnt affect it adversely so you are fine at that boost level.
Send it to the US for a rebuild. Ask Bing he just sent his in. I wouldnt trust anyone with my turbo locally.
well i actually discovered the problem but of course couldnt see it till the manifold and turbo were pulled out but the oil leak was actually coming form a bad crush washer in the oil feed line - so total coast was nuthing but time! SWEET
“I wouldnt trust anyone with my turbo locally.” i would theres a two reputable places ive been told over and over - cherry turbo and industry diesel i talked to a couple of local dealerships that use them too. However the diesel/turbo shop here in hamilton told me the send it to NY?
i sent mine back to Precision turbo, where it was built.
i would not trust anyone in Ontario, certainly not a place that doesnt specialise in this type of work (sport compact turbos)… i can imagine taking it to an industrial turbo place, they wouldnt give a shit about a one off turbo fix for some kid with a nissan.
